Newsletter: Summer 2009 & Spring 2009 SUMMER 2009 Newsletter
Joan Draper, President, 503-329-1316 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE As we Americans encounter intense pressure from our Democratically controlled State and Federal administrations to move toward more government control and a reduction of individual freedoms, it is imperative that we accelerate our efforts to become involved in our grass roots activities. Our Legislators are fighting back by speaking out and pointing out the fallacies of a misguided philosophy and attempts to redefine our Constitution. We must support them and do all we can to educate ourselves and to convey our Republican ideals to our families, friends, associates and the public in general. We must not be intimidated by the liberal segment of our population, the biased media and newsprint. This push toward more socialistic policies is very dangerous and may not be reversible if we allow the current forces to continue. The Oregon Republican Party and other conservative groups are making great strides in bringing our message to the public and forming coalitions, attending town hall meetings, tea party rallies, meet up gatherings, telephoning, joining blogs, sending emails and letters to Legislators and media. These efforts will serve us well to take back our government in the 2010 election. Thank you to all who have been a part of these activities and I encourage all of us to do whatever we can. Every little bit makes a difference and your contributions are valued, recognized and very much appreciated. In BWSRW, the summer and fall activities bring informative and interesting meetings, great speakers plus good camaraderie amongst our members and friends. Joan Draper, President, 503-329-1316 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The New Year brings in a new slate of officers for BWSRW. I am pleased again to be your President and thank you for your confidence in me. Your new officers are, Diana Ward, 1st Vice President; Betty Atteberry, 2nd Vice President; Jerrylynn Reel, Recording Secretary; Mary Lou Anan, Corresponding Secretary; Doris Thoen, Treasurer; and Phyllis Beukelman, Chaplain. Welcome to all and I look forward to working with everyone in our club. The inauguration is over and we have a new President. The past couple of months allowed us to digest the facts and lick our wounds. Not only do we have a vastly different political environment, events are moving so fast it’s hard to keep up. We now have bank bailout and stimulus bills of such gigantic proportions and cost to the taxpayers that it is mind numbing. But keep up we must. We can’t just sit idly by and watch our Republican ideals eroded. In Oregon, we have a new ORP Chairman, Bob Tiernan, who is proactive in re-energizing and organizing our party into an effective voice for Oregon politics. Nationally, Michael Steele has been elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee. He also has been hitting the road and bringing our message to the country. We must do our part, become active supporters of our party and candidates, continue to be well informed and promote our positions. We, in BWSRW shall always strive to bring you up to date information, well planned programs and encourage activities where we ladies can be the most effective. Open communication is a key, as well as cooperative activity with other Republican clubs and groups. Please, do feel free to contact me at any time with your ideas and suggestions. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

She closed her speech with a quote from Jefferson: A government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take everything you have. Governor Vic Atiyeh spoke at the BWSRW luncheon in February. Governor Atiyeh compared the republican climate in Oregon when he was in office to the current republican status.
