Learning to Love John McCain
"It came to me while I was having dinner with Doris Day. No, not that Doris Day. The Doris Day who is married to Col. Bud Day, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, fighter pilot, Vietnam POW and roommate of John McCain at the Hanoi Hilton." Cut and paste http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120951606847454685.html into your browser for the full article from the Wall Street Journal, April 30, 2008, "Getting to Know John McCain" by Karl Rove.

Conservative Book Club - May - Women in Islam
This month's book is Infidel by Ayaan Hirst Ali. It is the real-life story of the Somali-born Dutch parliamentarian who was driven into hiding when the film-maker Theo van Gogh was brutally murdered by Islamic terrorists for collaborating with her on a documentary about the plight of Muslim women.

Join us Tuesday, May 27, 7:00 p.m., at Ande Hoffman's home, 670 Snead Drive North, Keizer for a fun time of discussion, dessert and coffee.

Remember to log your volunteer hours!
These are hours of volunteering (non-paid) for the Republican Party, our Republican candidates, and our Federation of Republican Women. Some great examples of hours you can count are campaign work done at home like mailings, posters, or phone calls. You can count time spent as a county, state, or national party committee member, political work at club meetings, running for office, or working at the HQ of the Party or candidate volunteering your time. Remember to keep track. Every hour you volunteer helps our club.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries
Laura Bush is keenly aware of the opportunity she has to share her love of reading, especially to young children. She is using her role as First Lady to encourage people to share the magic of reading with children, to enourage Americans to pursue a teaching career and showcase early childhood development initiatives that have been proven successful. Grants from the Laura Bush Foundation will be made to school libraries across the country to purchase books. Money to fund these grants will be raised by the Leadership Council of the Laura Bush Foundation. For grant information or to find out how to contribute to the foundation, email laurabushfoundation@cfncr.org or contact Alicia Reid at the Community Foundation at 202-263-4774.
