Salem Chapter Celebrates 50 Years of Service
2007 marks the 50th anniversary of the Capitol City Republican Women! Come help us celebrate fifty years of learning and civic engagement at our next meeting. Luncheon speakers include state and local elected officials, Republican Party organizers, and political thinkers from across the state and nation. Membership is open to any registered Republican woman who is committed to the Republican Party and to Republican candidates.

Next Meeting
We will meet next on _____ in the dining room of the Scottish Rite Temple, 4090 Commercial Street SE, Salem. Our guest speaker will be Linda Hellenthal, who will inspire and challenge us with ways to be more effective advocates for Republican ideals.

Caring for America
Thank you, Betty Balyo and Ruth Hardwick, our Caring for America chairs in 2007. Betty and Ruth are coordinating our effort to fill care packages for local service men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Needed items include pre-paid calling cards, black cotton socks, wet wipes, books and magazines, and heat-resistant candy. Cash donations for shipping are also welcome. Help us show the troops our love and support.
Remember to log your volunteer hours!
These are hours of volunteering (non-paid) for the Republican Party, our Republican candidates, and our Federation of Republican Women. Some great examples of hours you can count are campaign work done at home like mailings, posters, or phone calls. You can count time spent as a county, state, or national party committee member, political work at club meetings, running for office, or working at the HQ of the Party or candidate volunteering your time. Remember to keep track. Every hour you volunteer helps our club.

Coming Up
Get ready for the Oregon Federation of Republican Women's Day at the Capitol on _____. Come meet and encourage our Republican legislators, take a tour of our beautiful Capitol Building, and enjoy lunch with Republican ladies from across the state. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Hearing Room 50.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries
Laura Bush is keenly aware of the opportunity she has to share her love of reading, especially to young children. She is using her role as First Lady to encourage people to share the magic of reading with children, to enourage Americans to pursue a teaching career and showcase early childhood development initiatives that have been proven successful.

Grants from the Laura Bush Foundation will be made to school libraries across the country to purchase books. Money to fund these grants will be raised by the Leadership Council of the Laura Bush Foundation. For grant information or to find out how to contribute to the foundation, email laurabushfoundation@cfncr.org or contact Alicia Reid at the Community Foundation at 202-263-4774.
