Annually since 1999, the Friendship Force of Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley has invited teachers of English from Novgorod, Russia to visit in Oregon. The month-long experience of total immersion in the English language helps them in the classroom when they return. Additionally, staying in the homes of their hosts, and having many different day-hosts gives them a good overview of American culture.

Rimma was the first of the teachers to be invited to visit Oregon. It was at her suggestion that volunteers from the USA began helping in Russian schools. Her first visit was in 1999; she subsequently has visited four more times in Oregon, in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007.

Olga (above) and Mila (below) visited in 2001. They also spent two weeks in Florida
as guests of a Friendship Force member there.

Natalia and her daughter Maria (above) and Elena (below) and her daughter Irina were our guests in 2002

Tatiana visited us in 2004. She was to have been our 2003 guest,
but the US Consulate in St. Petersburg chose to deny her visa that year.

Inna was our 2005 guest from Novgorod. She is shown here picking blueberries.

Natasha had an outstanding time in the USA during the summer of 2007. She was invited to see the mid-Atlantic states including Washington, DC. spent three weeks in Oregon, a week in Texas and another week in New England.
