Saint of the Month

St. Ursus

This Irishman went to Aosta, Italy to spread the Gospel in the 6th Century. Arianism was rampant at the time. He fought hard against it and the historian Tommansini gives him credit for exterminating it completely from the area, and adds that Calvin could make no headway there. Aosta’s Church of St. Peter and St. Ursus is well known today for its collection of religious art and the grave of the Saint. The Cathedral of Ruin contains an altar dedicated to him.
