Beaver Valley View Beaver Valley View International Association of Administrative Professionals® Beaver Valley Chapter, Rochester, PA www.orgsites.com/pa/beavervalley-iaap/ Chartered in 1948 Volume 1, Issue 4 January 2012 President’s Message Myrna Jessell, CAP Happy New Year! The year 2012 entered with March-like weather, and who could complain about that. However, winter has now made its appearance. The New Year also ushered in exiting news from IAAP Headquarters--a new executive director has been hired, Gerald J. “Jay” Donahue, Jr., CAE, CMP. A new certification has also been announced, Technology Applications. More information about the new certification is available on the IAAP website. Congratulations to Carol James, sister of Janice Glass, on winning the $2,500 consolation prize in our cruise ticket sales. As most of you are aware, we did not sell the December 15 winning number, but offered a consolation prize to the holder of the ticket with the next winning number. To all of you who sold the cruise tickets, thank you so much. A complete report of the ticket receipts and disbursements will be made at the January meeting. Did you know that Saturday, January 21, is National Hug Day? Yes, there seems to be a national day for everything, but this is one that everyone can participate in. Give a hug to your loved ones, friends, and especially to someone who is hurting, either physically or mentally, and tell them how much you love and/or appreciate them. “Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold.” —Zelda Fitzgerald. You don’t want to miss this month’s meeting on January 24. Peg Dinello’s daughter, Rosemary McCarthy, PhD, RN, is our guest speaker. Myrna Jessell, CAP 2011-2012 Beaver Valley Chapter President National Do Not Call List The following information was taken from the Beaver County District Attorney’s Newsletter and bears repeating for your security. The National Do Not Call List has some 210 million numbers. Scammers are now calling saying they are calling from the national register of DO NOT CALL numbers. They claim to need additional information or new subscriptions for your listing. The National Register does not call seeking information on old numbers or solicits new numbers. These scammers seek your information in order to steal your identity. Thank You Note “On behalf of the Presque Isle Chapter and 2013 Division Meeting Committee, I want to thank you for the $500 donation to the division meeting. We appreciate your generous contribution. Even though the trip was not won, I’m sure the winner was thrilled. And it’s wonderful that you realized a profit. Congratulations on a great job! Karen Jendruczak, President Presque Isle Chapter.” Chapter Meeting, January 24, 2012 Our January meeting promises to be an exciting one. We will have the opportunity to meet Peg Dinello’s daughter, Rosemary McCarthy PhD, RN, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Students and Adult Education at La Roche College. She will be presenting a program on “Healthy Aging: A National Health Initiative.” International News International President Tamra Goodall, CAP-OM, has announced the hiring of a new executive director, Gerald J. “Jay” Donahue, Jr., CAE, CMP. Jay has had over 18 years of association experience, having served as executive director/chief administrative officer and chief operations officer for three major national and international membership organizations. His background also includes serving as an executive job coach with the nation’s first, oldest and premier outplacement firm, Challenger, Gray and Christmas. Over the years, Jay has been responsible for the operation and services for the International Association of Defense Council, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Professional Convention Management Association. He has implemented new organizational strategic plans and also assisted with the restructuring of administrative and governance systems. He’s skillful at finding and implementing creative solutions. Jay is also excellent in developing employee talent and in training. A new certification specialty has also been added to the certification program. For those who are already certified, keeping up on the latest technology is important. Starting this year, IAAP is offering a new specialty: Technology Applications. Complete three Options Technology modules; then pass a Microsoft test in one of those areas and apply for the specialty. |
