Once again, Deb and Bob Vasile of the Discount Vacuum and Sewing Centers will be hosting Make a Blanket Day for the Cumberland/Dauphin PA Chapter of Project Linus. As in previous years, anyone making and donating a blanket will have a chance to win a great prize. Blankets may be dropped at either the above address, or their East Shore store in the Union Square Shopping Center, 3873 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, until Feb 20th, 2010.

Project Linus is a charity that provides new, handmade blankets to critically ill and traumatized children. Since its inception in Nov 2002, the Cumberland / Dauphin Chapter has distributed blankets to comfort children in the Harrisburg area. We deliver new handmade blankets that are sewn, quilted, knitted or crocheted. They must be washable and in child friendly colors and/or patterns.

When blankets are dropped off, you will be given a ticket for each blanket donated for a chance to win one of two 5 1/2 Ft. hardwood quilt racks. In addition there will be door prizes for those attending the event. Remember, the more blankets you donate, the more chances you will have to win, and the more children will benefit.

The drawing for the quilt racks will be held on Blanket Day. To ensure that we have all eligible tickets from both stores, blankets must be dropped off by the morning of Saturday February 20th.

In order to qualify for a ticket for the drawing, we are asking that blankets donated be around 45” by 60”. At this time, we have no need for baby size blankets. Blankets must be made of new materials such as 100% cotton, flannel or fleece in child friendly colors. Purchased blankets such as fleece with a machined edge are not considered eligible for tickets. No holiday fabrics, wool, upholstery fabrics or corduroy please! Blankets that are crocheted, knitted or single layer fleece with a finished edge are acceptable. If sewn, the blankets must be at least 2 layers with batting and be quilted or tied at 6” to 7” intervals. We cannot accept blankets from homes where there are smokers. Studies have shown that washing or airing does not remove the chemicals from the blankets. The odors will return and too many children are allergic to the chemicals in the smoke. We hope this does not offend anyone as we do appreciate the effort that is put into the blankets.

Details for our event are as follows:

* Saturday February 20th from 10 AM to 4 PM
* Please bring your own sewing machine if you wish to sew. We will also be sewing labels and hang tags to blankets that have been donated before the event.
* Bring your own sewing supplies such as scissors, needles, etc if you wish
* Fabric, pre-cut quilt top kits and other materials will be provided.
* Please bring a bag lunch. Snacks and drinks will be provided. * Contact Karen at 975-2824 or email at karenandjerry@comcast.net if you are planning to attend so we may arrange for adequate space.
