Project Linus
was inspired on Christmas Eve 1995 when Karen Loucks of Colorado read an article in Parade Magazine entitled "Joy to the World" by Pulitzer Prize winning photo journalist, Eddie Adams. The article included a picture of an adorable small, downy-haired girl holding a security blanket.
The 3-year old cancer patient had undergone intensive chemo-therapy treatments and claimed that her blankie had helped her through.
Karen Loucks decided to provide homemade blankets to a local hospital, thereby creating Project Linus.
Over 2,000,000 blankets have been distributed worldwide.
Project Linus was named after the adorable security blanket toting character from the Peanuts comic strip.
Creator Charles Schulz was aware of our effort and delighted to have Linus inspire blanket makers to help comfort children in need.
