Bald Eagle Archaeological Society, Chapter 24

Those Who Came Before: the Archaeology of Centre County's Native Americans -- an exhibit co-sponsored by the Bald Eagle Archaeological Society and the Centre County Historical Society. Dates: October 1 through November 13, 2011
Time: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays 1-4 pm. Other hours by appointment by calling (814) 234-4779, or by email to info@centrecountyhistory.org.
Location: Centre Furnace Mansion , 1001 E. College Avenue , State College.

Events scheduled at Centre Furnace Mansion in association with the exhibit include a lecture by Dr. Dean Snow, Professor of Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University, on Archaeology in Centre County, on October 9th, a flint knapping demonstration and artifact identification on October 16th, and a lecture by Paul Raber, Senior Archaeologist at Heberling Associates, Inc., on the Mackey Run Site, a Middle and Late Archaic site in Centre County. Building on the Past -- a display based on the discovery of a 19th century ore washing facility, was developed by Heberling Associates, Inc. with the Centre County Historical Society and the Centre County Industrial Development Corporation. The display explains the development of this technology and the achievements of ironmasters of the Valentine and Thomas families. This exhibit will be on display at the same location, Centre Furnace Mansion, October 1 - 30, 2011.


Forks of the Delaware, Chapter 14

For the October meeting Dr. Ben Carter from the new anthropology lab at Muhlenberg College will present a program. The chapter meeting starts at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month and is held at the Palmer Township Library Building in Easton, PA. Chapter public meetings are held year around in the Duryea Community Building, 315 Main Street, Duryea, PA on the last Tuesday of the month from 7PM to 9PM. Exceptions being June, July, and August when no meetings are scheduled.

A chapter exhibit will be found at the following event: 4TH Annual Pittston Riverfest 2011 on Kennedy Blvd. in Pittston, Pa. 10PM to 4PM on September 24, 2011.


Ohio Valley Chapter 22

The Ohio Valley Chapter will have a display of archaeological materials at the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean Street, Butler, PA during the month of October.


Westmoreland Archaeological Society Chapter 23

The Westmoreland Archaeology Society, Chapter 23 will be sponsoring an artifact display event for the public at the Unity Township Municipal Building in Beatty, PA. The event will be held on Saturday, October 1 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The public is encouraged to bring any of their personal arrowhead finds to the event and chapter members will identify them.

The Chapter is also inviting the public to tour the Consol site, an active archaeological dig, on Saturday, October 15 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
