  These last weeks have been a whirlwind of activity & excitement!
~We presented a Victorian Wake at the museum & hosted our annual Victorian Christmas Open House.
~Of special note, CCHS member Terry Courson has been restoring the windows at the Licking Church.

  • LICKING CHURCH RESTORATION
    CCHS member Terry Courson, of Ellwood City,
    is restoring the windows of the Licking Church.

    VICTORIAN WAKE at THE SUTTON-DITZ HOUSE MUSEUM

    On October 30, 2009 a Victorian Wake was held at the Sutton-Ditz House Museum
    for Thomas Sutton, the original owner of the house.


    Museum in Mourning

    The foyer and all mirrors were draped in black.


    In the parlor: A copper viewing casket, with glass lid,
    from the CCHS collection.
    After services, the deceased would be transferred
    to a wood or metal coffin for burial.


    Thomas Sutton, Esq. RIP
    Born Dec. 31, 1816, died March 1853.

    Mission Statement
    The purpose of The Clarion County Historical Society is the discovery, collection, and preservation of materials pertaining to the history of Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and to encourage the study and appreciation of that history by conducting workshops, exhibitions, and observances which will promote and stimulate the purpose for which the Society, the Museum, and the Library were formed.

    The Sutton-Ditz House Museum was established for the display of items relating to and significant in the history of Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and its residents.

    The Ralph J. & Virginia A. Fulton Library was established to assist researchers interested primarily in family history and the history and culture of Clarion County, Pennsylvania.
