Covenant Of The Sacred Moon

There is a Witch in my town!

There is a “Witch” in my town what should I do? “OH! MY!” Yes, there probably is. Witches come in all shapes and sizes, professions, colors and genders. Walking through a store or a park, you may not even recognize a Witch as being different from any other person.

Do not fear. Most people have operated under misconceptions when it comes to Witches, therefore they fear them and consider them evil, or of a lower class of people. This is not true. Your doctor, lawyer, nurse, executive, best friend or neighbor could be a witch. Due to the persecution and the misconceptions, many witches choose to keep their beliefs secret. Witchcraft, like many other religions, has a code or creed which governs it. This is “And it harm none, Do as ye will.” This means you may do what you want, but cannot harm any living thing. Witches believe that everyone is responsible for their own actions, and that doing harm to another will create a negative karmic return. You get back what you send out. That also applies to good; you do good, you get good back.

So within your daily life, if you find you have a Witch in your town...Take a deep breath and relax. Know that Witchcraft is a religion that believes in love and peace for everyone, and they do not wish to harm, just to be a friend and to be respected, like everyone. Keep in mind, religion is a personal choice and that choice is for all to enjoy..

Read the most asked questions to learn about that Witch in Your Town....

What is Witchcraft?

Witchcraft is an earth-based religion (the Old Religion), based on the religious rites and spiritual path of Pre-Christian/Pre-Judaic peoples of Ancient Europe. Their belief is of an equal balance of feminine and masculine energies, and in that balance, all living things are created. In 1985 Witchcraft was legally recognized as a true religion. It is the fastest growing religion today.

Where do Witches practice their religion?

Witches practice their religion in what is called a circle. The circle is cast to create a sacred space. The whole world is a sacred space for a witch. They do not have a church, temple, mosque or synagogue, although there are some churches being established all over the world. However, most Witches, due to lack of a Church, practice in their homes, or in parks, or in a secluded field or woods to be close to the earth. There are many Unitarian Universalist Churches that will allow Wiccan/Pagan organizations to have ceremonies in their church.

Do Witches practice in groups?

There are many solitary practioners. These are Witches who choose to practice their religion by themselves. Witches also have sacred groups call covens. The word coven comes from the Christian word covenant meaning “an oath ”. The coven is a group of witches (usually up to 13) who make an oath to practice and learn the ways of the craft.

They are structured and have the love and trust of a family.

Are only women allowed to be Witches?

No, to create equal balance many covens have a High Priest and a High Priestess.

Witchcraft does not separate Men from Women. They are acknowledged as equals and equally important to the balance of energies. No gender is greater than the other. This is duplicated in our worship of both male and female divinity. There are groups that are called Dianic. These are dominated by females and are usually feminist organizations dedicated to the Old Ways.

Why do Witches wear pentagrams?

All religions have a symbol that represents protection, honor and respect for their faith. A Pentagram to a witch is just that; protection, honor and respect. Each point of the star means something, as do the center and the circle that surrounds it. The points represent earth, air, fire, water. The center represents spirit or akasha. The circle represents the never ending circle of birth, life, death and rebirth, the binding of all elements and the encompassing embrace of the Goddess.

Do Witches worship the devil?

The Devil is a representative of the Christian religion. Witches do not believe in the existence of the Devil/Satan. The Devil/Satan was adapted by the Christians. The Horned God in Witchcraft represents the God of the Hunt. He is also the Triple God, likened to the Trinity in the Christian Faith. He represents the young, virile, playful male, who sows his seeds to become a Father, hunter and provider, and who, in turn, becomes the wise one, the Grandfather. The Goddess also represents a Triple Goddess; the young playful Maiden, the Mother and child bearer, the Crone, grandmother and wise woman. These three stages for the God and Goddess represent the phases of all forms of life; birth/youth, life/maturity, old age/death. This is not unlike the Christian Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Do Witches cast spells?

Yes, a spell is like a prayer. It is a thought projected into the universe, using it’s energy to manifest. Sometimes Witches will use herbs, stones or other objects in their spells. To a Witch, everything has life, energy and a purpose. With this in mind, they use this energy and purpose to enhance their spell work. Witches believe in free will and for the good of all. Their #1 rule is Do as Ye Will, and Harm None. True Witches will not violate these rules, and therefore, will not do spells against someone and intend harm. They will also not do spell work for anyone, even if it is healing, unless they have their permission.

Keep in mind, thoughts and words are power, so keep your mind and words clear from negativity, for you might get what you wish for...

Is Witchcraft a true religion?

Yes. In 1985, Witchcraft was legally recognized as a true religion. It has structure and ethics, just as many mainstream religions do. They have rites of passages that are celebrated at different stages in life. They honor Sabbats at different times of the year.

What about children? Do they practice and learn witchcraft as they grow up?

Yes. Children learn the ways of the craft, just as they do in mainstream religions. Some families are afraid to teach their children their religion due to misconceptions imposed upon the religion. So, because of this fear, many Witches will choose not to teach their children until they are grown and live in secret. Witches should not have worry about being persecuted because of their beliefs, and society today has a bad habit of doing that. Witches and children of Witches are no different than Christians and children of Christians. There are many Wiccan/Pagan children’s groups being formed all over the country, where the children are tought different aspects of nature, and to love and respect all life. Children are taught to say blessings and give thanks to Mother Earth for all she has given us. They are taught the Sabbats and what they mean.
