Welcome to the Covenant Of The Sacred Moon
The Covenant Of The Sacred Moon was established in the year 2000, and is based in northeastern Pennsylvania. Its purpose is to unite Wiccans and Pagans of all traditions, who seek others that follow their same path. We seek to be a guide for those who wish to unite within covens, as well as those who wish to remain solitary, and be a place to grow and share for all. We work to establish study groups for all Wiccan and Pagan paths, so that there is an ongoing wealth of knowledge. We will come together as one and celebrate the Sabbats in an open circle, created by all members of the Covenant Of The Sacred Moon, and shared with those who wish to join us in joy and harmony. We will sponsor authors, who wish to share their knowledge amongst us, through workshops and lectures. We believe in religious freedom for all and will strive to uphold and protect the Laws that govern it through Interfaith Council groups. We will work as a family for those who seek to raise their children among the Craft of the Wise, and sponsor children’s groups, so they too can grow and learn from all aspects of the Goddess and God.
Public Awareness is an essential part of the Wiccan / Pagan Religion, so that we will be protected from those who have misconceptions and aim to discredit our religion. With this belief, Covenant Of The Sacred Moon will act as an educator for public awareness.
We do not seek to harm or discredit other religions, for we believe religion is a personal choice and should be respected by all religions.
We believe in the Harm None Law and the Law of Three.
We offer chapters to other States and areas who wish to join in our Union. For within Unity there is Peace....
The Religious Freedom Quilt Project was organized and initiated by our group, The Covenant Of The Sacred Moon. The purpose of this project is to educate the public and the White House. They must be made aware that there are many Wiccans and Pagans out there. We are not a small group and we are United States Citizens. In the United States, there are laws and freedoms to protect all Americans. One of these laws and freedoms is the Freedom of Religion.
Freedom of Religion is for all Americans and is protected by our First Amendment.In 1985 in Dettmer vs. Landon Supra, pursuant to rule 52(a) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the District Court of Virginia ruled that Witchcraft is a legitimate religion, and falls within the category of legally recognizable religions. In 1986, the Federal Appeals Court Fourth Circuit Judge, J. Butzner, affirmed the ruling in Dettmer vs. Landon Supra (799f.2d 929). This affirmation clearly sets Wicca as a religion under the protection of Constitutional Rights. It states:
"We agree with the District Court that the doctrine taught by the Church of Wicca (Witchcraft) is a religion, and reaffirms the original case in 1985 that rules that Witchcraft is a legitimate religion and falls within a recognizable religious category and is clearly a religion for the First Amendment Purposes."
As a result of this, in most cases, Federal Law supersedes State Law in this type of matter. Wiccans everywhere are protected.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article #18, as published by the United Nations, also clearly agrees that religion is universal, and freedom of religion is for all.
" Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."
One of the important issues here is that Wicca is recognized as a true and legitimate religion, as stated by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Yet, we are told our religion is not legitimate, by such leaders as our own President, George W. Bush.
This Country is a melting pot and therefore, within it holds many religions. They may not all believe the same spiritual path, the may not honor the same Deity structure, their image of their God may be that of female, black, white or none at all. Does this make their religious beliefs wrong? Does it make their religion not legitimate? The Constitution says “ As long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.”
By telling other religions their beliefs are wrong and taking away their rights, it is clearly “ infringing on the rights of others.”
As the originator of this Quilt project it is our belief that religion is a personal choice. If the Federal Court recognizes Wicca (Witchcraft) as a legitimate religion, then why are we being treated harshly and told we are not.
The Religious Freedom Quilt is a voice for all to stand up and be counted; to say, "I am a Pagan! I am a Witch! I am Wiccan, I believe in religious freedom for ALL and it is time that I be counted."
For those who want to support religious freedom, but are not Pagan or Wiccan, they are also free and welcome to stand with us in this fight, for Unity is the ultimate force of Power.
Let’s not divide this country due to religious beliefs and power struggles over whose religion is right and whose is not. It is a notable statement, “ When religion and politics were mixed, people were burned at the stake.”
Let’s not walk that path again...

We are the lawyers who stand up and fight for all. We are the doctors who take care of you when you are sick. We are the voters....

WHAT TO DO:
Decorate a 6 inch square piece of material with your Coven Emblem, Organization Emblem, Colors, Name and Tradition, or something else relating to you. (For an organization, please include your state). Solitary Practitioners should do the same.LEAVE A 1/2 INCH MARGIN ALL AROUND, FOR SEWING. IF YOU USE PAINT, MAKE SURE IT IS WASHABLE FABRIC PAINT.
You may send 1 piece for your coven emblem and 1 additional piece for each coven member. They will be grouped together on the quilt surrounding the coven emblem. We also encourage single pieces, in the belief that the sheer number of participants are what will speak the loudest and make the greatest impact. Please place your pieces in a clear plastic bag for the protection of the piece.

Membership is open to all Wiccans, Pagans and those with a serious interest in learning more about our religion.
If you are under 18 years of age, you may join with the written consent of a parent.
We reserve the right to refuse membership to anyone who we feel may be harmful to our organization or to the Wiccan / Pagan Community.

Checks can be made out to C.O.T.S.M. or Covenant of the Sacred Moon. In the memo area, please write “Freedom Quilt”.
Gift certificates will also be accepted from local stores in our area, which are worldwide. They include:

Suggestions for Groups or Representatives:
* Set up sewing bees and workshops, where you supply the pieces and some items for decorations. Bring your own thread and needle.
* Set up drops offs for donations and things needed for sewing the quilt
* Offer your space for a sewing event
* Distribute flyers
* Put flyers in your Newsletter to help spread the word
* Set up a table at your Events for information and donations
* Raise money for the project
Groups and Organizations will be recognized for their efforts publicly, and documented in the History of the Religious Freedom Quilt.
