 ENGINE AND TANKER ON STRUCTURE FIRE IN UPPER PAXTON TOWNSHIP
12/03/08 At 12:19 hours, the Engine and Tanker were dispatched to Box 20-2, 215 Roadcap Road, Upper Paxton Township, for a working structure fire. MICU 6-3 arrived on the scene with a half of a double wide trailer, fully involved. Chief 20-3 (M. Koppenhaver), arrived on scene on Engine 20 and confirmed this and asked for a full first alarm. Tanker 216 responded with 2 and Engine 216 responded with 5. Once the Tanker arrived on the scene, it's manpower packed up and reported to the manpower pool. The Tanker then joined the line of Tankers that fed Tanker 20, who then pumped to Engine 20. The Tanker fed Tanker 20 two loads of water. When the Engine arrived on the scene, their manpower also packed up and reported to the manpower pool. The crew from the Engine and the Tanker then assisted with pulling down the remaining walls of the structure so they could be soaked down and the contents inside the house could be soaked down. This call also brought apparatus from companies 20, 21, 26, 28, and 29. The Fisherville Fire Police responded and provided traffic control at the fill site. Company 216 personnel were out for 3 hours.
CHIMNEY FIRE ON BACK ROAD
11/25/08 At 08:29 hours, Box 19-1 was dispatched for a chimney fire at 4611 Back Road, Jefferson Township. The Engine was dispatched in place of Engine 19 and the Tanker was also dispatched. Before the Engine could respond, Engine 19 got out and the Engine was placed in service. Tanker 216 responded with 2 and Utility 216 responded with 2. This call also brought Truck 22 to the scene. Prior to arriving on the scene, Command 19 held the box to Engine 19 and Truck 22, placing the Tanker and the Utility in service. Units were out for a little over 20 minutes.
WIRES DOWN ON A TRACTOR TRAILER
11/24/08 At 08:47 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to the 2041 Armstrong Valley Road, at the Armstrong Valley Bible Church, Jackson Township, for wires down on a tractor trailer. Chief 216-2 (D. Faust) and Capt. 216 (J. Faust) arrived on the scene to find a tractor trailer in the stone parking lot of the church, with a cable TV line around the rear wheel of the rear axle on the cab, and a service line from the telephone pole to the church snapped and laying next to the tractor trailer. Engine 216 responded with 2 and Utility 216 resonded with 1. Once on the scene, the TAC stick was pulled off of the Engine to check the power lines. The line that the tractor trailer pulled down, was not energized. With this, Chief 216 (R. Urich, Jr.) used a 6' fiberglass pike pole and removed the cable TV line from the rear wheel of the cab and the driver was able to get out of the truck. The driver was not injuried. This call also brought an ambulance from Company 13, Keiner's Auto Wrecking, Tim Bower's Electric, and P. P. & L. to the scene. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded to the scene and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little under 45 minutes.
ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES IN THE 1 BOX
11/22/08 At 17:57 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to the intersecton of Armstrong Valley Road and Tourist Park Road, Jackson Township, for an accident with injuries. Chief 29-1 (T. Pottiger) arrived on the scene with 2 cars blokcing the roadway with one minor injury. Engine 216 responded with 4. Once on the scene, both vehicle's had been moved off onto Stone Road. Personnel provided medical assistance to the injuried patient until the arrival of an ambulance from Company 13. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a littler over 45 minutes.
SEARCH DETAIL ON TOP OF PETERS MOUNTAIN
11/19/08 At 19:29 hours, County Communications dispatched for all available 216 personel to respond to the top of Peters Mountain in Halifax Township to assist with a search detail. Engine 216 responded with 4 and Utility 216 responded with 1. Once on the scene, we reported to Command 29 who gave us our assignment and we set off onto the trail. We had gone about 1-1/2 miles on the trail when Command relayed to all teams that they had been able to contact the individual by cell phone and he had made his way to the Clarks Ferry Shelter along the trail and was going to spend the night. At this point all teams were called back in off the trails and once back were released. Along with Companies 29 and 216, Company 38 (Dauphin) and Perry Company 2 (Duncannon) assisted with the search. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control on the scene. Units were out for a little over 1 hour.
LANDING ZONE ON TOBIAS ROAD
11/17/08 At 10:18 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to set up a Landing Zone at Station 216, Jackson Township. Engine 216 responded with 3 and County advised that they had given Life Lion the coordinates for the field at the intersection of Armstrong Valley Road and Tobias Road, Jackson Township. Engine 216 responded to this location and once on scene, set up cones to mark the landing zone for Life Lion. Life Lion was called because MICU 6-3 was coming from Wal-Mart with an unconscious person. Once Life Lion was on the ground, members assisted with loading the patient into the chopper. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little over 30 minutes.
MEDICAL ASSIST IN TOWN
11/14/08 Around 04:50 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to Armstrong Valley Road, Jackson Township, for a medical assist, lifting assistance. Chief 216 (R. Urich, Jr.) arrived on scene to find an ambulance from Company 13 already on the scene. Utility 216 responded with 2 and once on the scene assisted with brining the stretcher out of the house and loading it and the patient into the back of the ambulance. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a littler under 30 minutes.
SMOKE INVESTIGATION IN HALIFAX BOROUGH
11/13/08 At 07:58 hours, Box 29-6 was dispatched to the 200 block of Market Street, Halifax Borough for a Smoke Investigation, brining Company 29 and Engine 216. Chief 13-A (S. Paul) was in the area with nothing showing. Engine 216 responded with 3 and their was 2 members ready to respond with the Utility when Command 29 placed the box in service, as it was smoke from a chimney. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded on the call, and were also cancelled. Units out a little over 10 minutes.
TANKER TAKES ROAD TRIP TO UPPER PAXTON TOWNSHIP
11/10/08 At 15:19 hours, Box 20-3 was dispatched to 380 Klinger Road, Upper Paxton Township, to assist Company 20 on the scene at Coleman's Salvage and Surplus with an outside fire with CAFS. Chief 20 (E. Petrey) was on scene with multiple piles of wooden crates, various metal and rubber objects that had been on fire. They were in the process of tearing apart the pile and requested us to the scene with our CAFS. Once on the scene a 50' section of 1-3/4" was pulled off the trash line and used to lay a blanket of foam on the pile of junk. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little over 1-1/2 hours. Thanks to Company 20 for filling the Tanker up at their station.
SEARCH DETAIL IN STATE GAME LANDS
11/06/08 At 21:40 hours, County dispatched for any available personnel from Companies 19, 216, and 29 to report to Station 19 to assist in a Search Detail. Engine 216 responded with 4 and Utility 216 responded with 1 to Station 19. Once everyone had assembled at Station 19, we were briefed and then everyone moved up to 6487 Powell's Valley Road, at Hand Board to begin the search into the State Game Lands. Personnel were splint into 4 groups and also 2 ATV's from Company 29 personnel entered the trails to begin the search. PSP, PSP Helichopter and the State Game Commission all assisted with the search. At 00:36 hours, the lost hunter was found by personnel from Ranger 1 (ATV) and two rangers from the State Game Commission and FF/EMT Jesse Shutt. The hutner was removed from the woods and examined by MICU 6-5 and was doing well. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the apparatus and man power staging area at Hand Board. Units were out for a little under 4 hours.
SMOKE FROM A TV IN HALIFAX BOROUGH
10/28/08 At 12:46 hours, Box 29-6 was dispatched to 327 Market Street, Halifax Borough for Smoke from a TV. Chief 29-1 (T. Pottiger) went enrotue and once arriving on scene quickly held the box to what units were on the street, which was Engine 29-1 and Engine 20 and placed the rest of the box in service. Engine 216 had a crew of 4, but we were placed in service before we could respond. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control. Units were out for 10 minutes.
ACCIDENT WITH NO INJURIES IN THE 2 BOX
10/23/08 At 22:26 hours, Box 216-2 was dispatched to the intersection of Armstrong Valley Road and Mountain House Road, Jackson Township, to assist PSP with an accident. Engine 216 responded with 4. Chief 216-1 (R. Stoneroad) arrived on the scene to find PSP already on the scene. He had one car on it's roof along the side of the road, with the driver and only person in the vehicle already out of the car. Chief 216-1 then asked county to dispatch ems, class 3 to the scene for a refusal. The two emt's on the Engine checked the patient out and then gave a report to an ambulance from Co. 13. Members then controled fluids on the roadway and helped the towing company flip the car onto it's wheels. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little under 1 hour.
LANDING ZONE AT ENDERS-FISHERVILLE ELEMENTRAY SCHOOL
10/07/08 Around 16:00 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to 761 Enders Road at the Enders-Fisherville Elementary School, Jackson Township to set up a landing zone for Life Lion. Engine 216 responded with 4 and Utility 216 responded with 2. Once on the scene a landing zone was set up and Life Lion landed 4 minutes later. Life Lion was called to transport a child that had been struck by a school bus on Small Valley Road in Wayne Township. Members carried the patient from the back of MICU 6-5 to Life Lion. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little over 30 minutes.
MEDICAL ASSIST ON ENDERS ROAD
10/07/08 At 11:20 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to Enders Road, Jackson Township for a medical assist. Engine 216 responded with 3. Chief 216-2 (D. Faust) arrived on the scene to find an ambulance from 13 on the scene. Once Engine 216 arrived on the scene, EMS placed us in service as they had already gotten the patient up off the floor with the help from Chief 216-2. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little over 15 minutes.
MEDICAL ASSIST ON ARMSTRONG VALLEY ROAD
09/26/08 Around 06:32 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to the 2500 block of Armstrong Valley Road, Jackson Township for a cardiac arrest, AED response. Engine 216 resonded with Chief 216 (R. Urich, Jr.) and 2 FF/EMT'S on board. Engine 216 arrived on the scene to find MICU 6-3 also on the scene. Personnel went into the house to assist EMS, but were met at the door and notified that a signal 12 had been called and we were placed in service. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units out for a little over 10 minutes.
WIRES ARCHING IN THE 1 BOX
09/12/08 Around 18:30 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to 873 Enders Road, Jackson Township, for wires arching. Engine 216 responded with 2 and Utility 216 responded with 1. Once on the scene PP&L was notified and the company stood by until their arrival. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene.
SERVICE CALL ON HARMAN ROAD
08/31/08 At 21:23 hours, County Communications paged for Chief 216 (R. Urich) to call communications. Chief 216 called county and he was advised that an elderly female living at 535 Harman Road, Jackson Township had called 911 and said that her stove had been on since 16:00 hours and she needed help turning it off. Chief 216 advised county that he would send someone up to the residence to check things out. Chief 216-1 (R. Stoneroad) and 4 members responded to the scene in their POV's and assisted the resident with turning off her stove and made sure she was ok. After making sure everything was ok, everyone returned. Chief and members were out a little over 30 minutes.
ANOTHER SHED FIRE, THIS TIME IN HALIFAX TOWNSHIP
08/27/08 At 15:30 hours, Box 29-2 was dispatched to 441 Bitting Road, Halifax Township for a shed fire. This initally brought Company 29 and Engine 216. Chief 29-1 (T. Pottiger) went enroute and from a mile out advised county that he had a nice thermal column and requested the first alarm. Chief 29-1 arrived on the scene with a working shed fire in an approximately 50' x 50' shed. Engine 216 responded with 3 and Tanker 216 responded with 2. Engine 216 saw a nice smoke column from about 1 mile out. Once on the scene, Engine 216 backed up the driveway incase 5 inch needed to be laid out to the hard road. Command 29 advised us to drop our air packs since the shed was already on the ground. The crew from Engine 216 pulled a third crosslay off of Engine 29-1 and proceeded to the "Charlie" side of the structure. Once there, the handline was used to wet down the field behind the shed to prevent it from catching fire again. It was also used to wet down the pine trees and brush that was beside the shed. Tanker 29 dropped it's port-a-pond in front of the Engine and the Engine proceeded to draft out of the port-a-pond. The Engine suppled Engine 29-1 through a 100' section of 2-1/2" hose. Tanker 216 dropped 1 load of water in the port-a-pond and then proceeded to the pump house to refill with water. Once they were full they returned to the scene and were placed available then by Command 29. Once the fire had been knocked down, overhaul was started. The remains of the shed we soaked with water and then a blanket of foam was applied. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. SHED FIRE IN THE 3 BOX
08/26/08 At 15:40 hours, Box 216-3 was dispatched to 487 Deitrich Road, Jackson Township, for a shed fire. A firefighter from Company 29 (S. Warfel) lived on the property and was first on the scene. Chief 21 (T. Welker) was the first arriving officer and held the Box to Companies 216 and 21 and placed the rest of the box in service. This box also brought Engine 29-1, Tanker 29, Squad 26 and Engine and Tanker 19, along with MICU 6-3. Tanker 216 responded with 2 and Engine 216 responded with 5. Chief 21 advised Engine 21 to pull one line off their Engine to knock the fire down. Tanker and Engine 216 arrived on the scene and went up to the scene to assist with overhaul of the shed. The fire was held in check and the shed remained standing. Shovels were pulled off of Engine and Rescue 21 to assist in removing the debries in the shed. A multi-purpose hook was used off of the Tanker and a saw, flat head axe and two hooligan bars were also pulled off of Engine 21 and used. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for over 1-1/2 hours.
TRAILER OVERTURNED IN FRONT OF FAUST FARM
08/19/08 At 15:19 hours Box 216-2 was dispatched to 2950 Armstrong Valley Road, Jackson Township, for an accident with no injuries, for the Fire Police only to respond. Capt. 216 (J. Faust) arrived on the scene and requested that Engine 216 be dispatched also. Engine 216 responded with 3. Capt. 216 had a small pull behind dump trailer that had overturned and had spilled it's load of modified stone on the roadway. A skid loader from the Faust Farm was utilized to move the majority of the modified stone off of the roadway. Once the Engine arrived on the scene, brooms and a flat shovel were pulled off and used to sweep off the remaining debries. The trash line was then pulled off the Engine and utilized to wash the remaining dust and dirt off the roadway. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene.
VEHICLE FIRE IN WEISER STATE FORREST
08/12/08 At 01:37 hours, Box 216-2 was dispatched to the intersection of Mountain House Road and Harman Road, Jackson Township, for a vehicle fire. Engine 216 went responding with 3. County advised that the caller now stated that they were in the Weiser State Forrest on White Oak Road, and it was now a 216-3 box. Tanker 216 responded with 1. Chief 216-1 (R. Stoneroad) arrived on the scene with a working vehicle fire. Engine 216 arrived on the scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The 100' 1-3/4 Trash Line was pulled and used to fight the fire. Tanker 216 arrived on the scene and a 50' section of 2-1/2" was pulled off the Engine and hooked to the Engine and the Tanker supplied the Engine with additional water. Once the fire was knocked down, the trunk and hood were forced open and then trunk and engine compartments were hosed down and overhaul was performed on the vehicle and any hot spots were hosed down. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little over 1-1/2 hours.
TREE DOWN ON ARMSTRONG VALLEY ROAD
08/08/08 At 14:19 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to the intersection of Armstrong Valley Road and Rutter Road, Jackson Township, for a tree down. Engine 216 had 3 and Utility 216 had 1 and ready to respond when Capt. 216 (J. Faust) told county to hold the Engine and Utility in quarters. Capt. 216 then placed the box in service as PennDot was already on the scene and had removed the tree. The Fisherville Fire Police also were responding to the scene when the box was placed in service. Units out for under 5 minutes.
TANKER TRANSFERS TO STATION 26
08/02/08 At 13:36 hours, the Tanker was duspatched to transfer to Station 26 in Berrysburg Borough. Berrysburg, Gratz, and Pillow were all on the scene of a working basement fire in Herndon, Northumberland County. Chief 26 requested our Tanker be transfered to their station so that there would be a Tanker in the area. Tanler 216 responded with 2. Chief 26 then requested that Engine 21 also be transfered to Station 26 also. The Tanker stood by with Engine 21 for a little over 3 hours and no calls we run during that time. Tanker was out for a little over 3 hours.
OUTSIDE FIRE IN THE 29-2 BOX
08/01/08 At 22:55 hours, Engine 216 was dispatched on Box 29-2 to the intersection of Armstrong Valley Road and Keiffer Road, Halifax Township, for an outside fire. Capt. 37 arrived on the scene and placed the box in service as it was a controlled burn. There was a crew at the station for the Engine before the box got placed in service. The Fisherville Fire Police were also responding to the scene when the box was placed in service. Units out for under 5 minutes.
STRUCTURE FIRE ON POWELL'S VALLEY ROAD
07/24/08 At 07:39 hours, Box 29-1 was dispatched to 130 Powell's Valley Road, Halifax Township, for a structure fire. Chief 29-3 (C. Bisking) arrived on the scene to find a hot water heater fire in the basement, with the owner refusing to come out of the basement, as he was trying to extinguish the fire. Engine 216 responded with 3. Once on the scene, the Engine crew staged outside until placed in service by Command 29. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and assisted with traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a littler under 1 hour.
ELECTRICAL HAZARD ON BACK ROAD
07/23/08 At 22:05 hours, Box 19-1 was dispatched to 4586 Back Road, Jefferson Township, for an electrical hazard, wires arcing. Engine 216 responded with 3 and Tanker 216 responded with 2. Chief 19-1 (D. Osman) arrived on the scene to find an electrical line down in a wooded area. With the wire not laying on the road, Command 19 placed the box in service prior to the arrival of the Engine or Tanker. The Fisherville Fire Police were also responding to the scene when the box was placed in service. Units were out a little under 30 minutes.
MEDICAL ASSIST ON CESSNA DRIVE
07/17/08 At 05:22 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to Cessna Drive, Jackson Township for a medical assist for seizures. Chief 13-A had requested Company 216 to respond as most of the upper county ems units were tied up on an accident with injuries in Halifax Township. Firefighter/EMT Donald Shutt, Jr. arrived on the scene first. Engine 216 responded with 4. Once on the scene the Engine crew assisted with patient care until the arrival of Ambulance 13-1. The patient ended up being a refusal. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little over 45 minutes.
ACCIDENT WITH FLY OUT ON MOUNTAIN HOUSE ROAD
07/08/08 At 13:52 hours Box 216-2 was dispatched to 80 Mountain House Road, Jackson Township, for an accident with injuries. Chief 216 (R. Urich, Jr.) and FF/EMT J. Shutt were first on the scene. Cheif 216 advised county of an accident involving a motorcycle and a dump truck. It was determined from talking to the patient, that he took the turn to sharp on his motorcycle, and struck the side of the dump truck, and then laid his bike over onto the pavement. The patient had a compound fracture of his left ankle. This call also brought Rescue 21, Ambulance 13-2 and EMS from Company 6. Chief 21-2 placed Life Lion on stand by due to the injuries on the patient. Once ALS was on scene it was decided to place Life Lion in the air. Engine 216 responded with 4 and once on the scene the Engine was redirected to the faust farm to set up a Landing Zone for Life Lion. Engine 216 set up the LZ in a field on the Faust Farm and landed Life Lion. The crew from the Engine then assisted with loading the patient into Life Lion. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene and with shutting down Mountain House Road. Units were out for a little under 1 hour.
ASSIST COMPANY 29 ON AN OIL SPILL
07/03/08 Around 16:20 hours the tones went off for all available Company 216 Fire Police to respond on Box 29-2 to the 1500 Block of Armstrong Valley Road, Halifax Township, to assist on the scene of an oil spill. The Fisherville Fire Police responded and assisted with directing traffic along the detour. Company 216 Fire Police were stationed at the intersection of Snyder and Rutter Roads. Utility 216 also responded with 1 and brought the Emergency Scene Ahead road signs to assist the Fire Police. The Utility also brought some extra bags of oil-dry and a large roll of plastic sheeting to the scene for Company 29 to use. Then around 19:15 hours, Tanker 216 was dispatched to the scene. Tanker 216 responded with 2 and once on the scene assisted Company 29 with laying a blanket of foam down on the roadway. This incident ended up involving a 1,000 gallon container of vegetable oil that had fallen off the back of a truck while it was making the turn in front of Fetterhoff's church. Units were out a little over 4 hours.
LIGHTING STRIKE ON POWELL'S VALLEY ROAD
06/27/08 While the Engine was out doing pool fills, at 16:42 hours the tones went off for Engine 216 and Tanker 216 to respond to 3776 Powell's Valley Road, Jefferson Township, for a lighting strike. Both units were cancelled a few minutes later by Chief 19-1 who held the box to his Engine which had just responded. There were 2 people on the Engine ready to go if needed before being cancelled. Units were out under 5 minutes.

06/23/08 At 23:43 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to 2516 Armstrong Valley Road, Jackson Township for wires down. Car 93 (Eville EMA) went on the scene with a telephone wire across the road. Chief 216-2 (D. Faust) arrived on the scene and confirmed one line down, which was due to a tree being knocked over in a yard. Engine 216 responded with 3. Once on the scene, the bolt cutters were pulled off the Engine and the line was cut and moved off to the side of the road. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little under 30 minutes.
BRUSH FIRE ON RUTTER ROAD
06/21/08 At 14:56 hours, Box 216-1 was dispatched to just past the intersection of Rutter Road and Rettinger Road, Jackson Township, for a brush fire. Firefighter Sherm Warfel from Company 29 had called it in. Chief 29 (R. Stout) arrived on the scene with a 15 to 20 foot section of grass and weeds along the side of the road on fire. Tanker 216 responded with 2, Engine 216 responded with 4 and Utility 216 responded with 2. Tanker 216 arrived on the scene and a roll of forestry hose was pulled off and used to extinguish the remaining fire and hit the hot spots. Utility 216 arrived on the scene and pulled two Indian Rakes off to use. Engine 216 arrived on the scene and sent their manpower up to assist. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded and provided traffic control at the scene. Units were out for a little under 1 hour. Special thanks to Chief 29 Robert Stout for the pictures.

MEDICAL ASSIST ON DEITRICH ROAD
06/21/08 At 06:11 hours, Box 216-3 was dispatched to Deitrich Road, Jackson Township, for a medical assist, Cardiac Arrest. Engine 216 responded with 5, including 1 EMT. Chief 216-2 (D. Faust) arrived on the scene with MICU 6-3 and assisted with caring gear inside the house. Engine 216 arrived on the scene and was met at the door by Firefihgter/EMT Jesse Shutt who was on MICU 6-3 and advised that they could cancel as a Signal 12 had been called. The Fisherville Fire Police also responded to provide traffic control at the scene. Units were out for 30 minutes. |
