Welcome to the Friends of Goddard State Park     Mercer County holds a 2,800 - acre wonder — the lake, wetlands, fields and forests of Maurice K. Goddard State Park.

Named for the father of Pennsylvania’s grand state park system, the park is a perfect place for biking, fishing, boating, and other pursuits. It’s also close to additional hunting opportunities at Gamelands 270 and hands-on learning at the McKeever Environmental Education Center.

Founded in 2002, the Friends of Goddard (or FROG) assists the park in many ways: They raise funds for special projects; Help coordinate cleanups; and, Organize the annual Pioneer Frolic the last weekend in June—a two-day festival with reenactments, live music, children’s games, crafts, food, and more. Fueled by 30 enthusiastic members, a sample of other FROG accomplishments include outreach activities at Venango County’s annual Earth Day event and donation of a shelter for the park’s 12 mile paved bike trail.

When in Northwestern Pennsylvania, be sure to visit MK Goddard and thank all the volunteers for their outstanding efforts to enhance and promote this gem of a state park.

FROG membership is free. For more information, email frog_park@yahoo.com.

The Friends of Goddard are a partner group with the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation (PPFF). Learn more about PPFF at www.paparksandforests.org.

2010 Pioneer Frolic
Learning about the past gives us the opportunity to honor those who have forged a place for us. By seeing how our forefathers worked and made do with the simplest tools gives us a new respect for the pioneer spirit.

Hot Spot

Working a deer skin

Re-enactors portraying blacksmiths, weavers, spinners, coopers and farmers give us a glimpse of what it took to make a livelihood. Native Americans are as much of this community as the early settler.
