Did You Know?
every 53 seconds a person in the U.S. has a stroke?

160,000 people under the age of 65 have a stroke every year?

stroke is the leading cause of adult disability and third-leading cause of death?

there are 4.5 million stroke survivors alive today?

If you've found this web page...  chances are that you, or somebody that you love, is a stroke survivor. And a young one at that. We are here to tell you that you are not alone.

Stroke first introduced itself to us almost a year ago. Late one night, after complaining of a severe headache and visual disturbances, my boyfriend Bernie was admitted to the emergency room of a local hospital where we waited over 18 hours for his diagnosis. In those long agonizing hours, the doctors prepared us for the "inevitable": that it was a brain tumor that would need immediate surgery. When they finally reviewed his MRI and delivered the news...they were as shocked as we were. This active, healthy 29 year old had suffered a stroke.

Where To Turn...
After our initial shock wore off, our next reaction was to be as proactive as possible. We wanted to approach this new chapter in our life completely informed and educated. We were shocked to find only a handful of resources on the subject... and virtually NONE for young stroke survivors.

That is when the idea for Generation S was born.

  Road To Recovery...
We know that above everything we are very lucky and now approach every day with a new appreciation of life. Possessing a wiseness beyond our years, knowing what truly matters. And while our experience will be different from yours, and yours different from the next person's... there is one certainty. Life will never be the same...Hopefully, it will be better.

The Common Denominator
Time and time again, we have heard stories and first-hand accounts of young stroke survivors whose acute stroke diagnosis was prolonged due to disbelieving medical staff. One 46 year old even had to fight his insurance company to cover an MRI. They said he was too young to have had a stroke. In fact, he had suffered two.

Others were sent home with explanations for their symptoms ranging from ear infections to migraine headaches. Generation S intends to not only raise stroke awareness in young people, but also advocate better, faster response from the medical community.

Please join us in ACTION, AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY.

OUR MISSION

We want to inform, educate and communicate - thus promoting the overall well-being of young stroke survivors throughout the WORLD! We like to think BIG!
