We are attempting to start an "activity club" in the Pittsburgh area. Ballgames, picnics, anything fun! Stroke survivors,loved ones, family and caregivers are all welcome.

Different Strokes, the central Iowa support group for young (under 60) survivors of stroke or traumatic brain injury, meets the third Thursday of each month (no meetings in Nov. or Dec.) from 6:30-8:00 PM at 1111 9th Street in Des Moines.

The Community Stroke Support group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10-11:30 am at the Senior Friendship Center. The group provides an opportunity for ongoing education regarding stroke and its effects as well as support for stroke survivors and caregivers. Young Enthusiastic Stroke Survivors

YESS meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of the month at:

YESS is not limited to stroke survivors. It includes adults with head injuries, family members, professionals, and educators.

  • 1st Wednesday of Each Month
  • At Mary Free Bed in the 2nd Floor Conference Room 6:15pm to 7:30pm
  • We do not meet in January or July due to the Holidays
  • Potlucks in April, August and December
  • General meetings include speakers, dividing the group into two separate groups (those that have had a stroke in one group and their support person/spouse in another group), open discussions etc.

    This monthly support group provides emotional support, validation and feedback to caregivers and links them to appropriate resources.

    It meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at Bon Secours Hospital. Participants may join at any time.

    Young Stroke Survivors Club Meets the 1st Wednesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
