Before The Emergency Make a copy of your address and directions to your residence and keep them near the phone. You may be surprised how many people can’t remember their address or directions during an emergency. Don’t forget to write down the emergency number 9-1-1. Try to speak calmly and clearly when you call 9-1-1. This will help the dispatcher. They will need the nature of the emergency call, your name, and address including borough or township, and phone number. Listen to the dispatcher - they are trained to help you in an emergency. Please don’t hang up the phone until the dispatcher tells you to. Do not use 9-1-1 for non emergency calls. If you have children you are going to teach about calling 9-1-1, please instruct them that this is for emergencies only. False calls and hang-ups will prompt a response from the police. The dispatcher will know where the call is coming from but won’t know if it is a real emergency and will send the police. The Halifax Area Ambulance and Rescue Association had 444 events the first six months of 2008. During this time, we transported 264 patients to area hospitals. There were 4 patient transfers to Life Lion and the rest of the Events were either patient refusals, canceled prior to our arrival or fire calls. The Ambulance Association is currently in the middle of its annual Subscription drive for the fiscal year July 1, 2008 thru June 30, 2009. If you did not receive one in the mail, you may call our station at 896-3636, leave a message and we can have one mailed to you. We do not receive any fire tax and count on your support to keep the Ambulance Association running. |
