Our ambulances responded to 37 calls during the month of October. Personnel transported 32 patients to various hospitals. Calls included accidents, trauma, cardiac, breathing difficulties, and CVA's.

The Halifax Area Ambulance Association were dispatched for over 700 events since the beginning of 2008. We have cared for over 490 patients this year, either transporting them to an emergency room or treating them there where the event occured.

On October 6, we were invited to the Halifax Fire Dept Open House to show off our equipment. We displayed our new Back Pack and our New Friend Randy who was willing to be our patient for the day. Also we showed our AED, new traction splint and took blood pressures for the public.

Our ambulances responded to 41 calls during the month of September. Personnel transported 35 patients to various hospitals. Calls included accidents, trauma, cardiac, breathing difficulties, CVA's, CPR call and several DOA's.

The Halifax Area Ambulance Association were dispatched for over 650 events since the beginning of 2008. We have cared for over 450 patients this year, either transporting them to an emergency room or treating them there where the event occured.

Our EMT instructors are holding continuing education classes for our personnel twice a month except for the month of December. The classes help to keep up the skills of the EMT's and also allow then to keep their certification which needs to be renewed every three years. The class schedule can be accessed on the Training and Continuing Education page of the website.

Currently the ambulance building is rented for banquets, parties and weddings. These events are held in the bay area where the ambulances are housed. The association has plans to add a Social Hall to the building for these events. This will allow for a much improved dining facility.

Recently our ambulance assocaition was approved for a grant totaling $9,919.44 from the PA Emergency Management Agency Volunteer Fire Co and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program. The funds were used to upgrade equipment to make it easier to move patient's who need to be brought down steps with the new Stair-Pro stair chairs, increase our number of oxygen tanks, and to provide each of our Chief's with equipment to carry in their personal vehicles. They often respond to calls in their own vehicles, are first on the scene, and will have the basic things they need to initiate patient care until the ambulance arrives. A manikin was also purchased that is life-size and weighted and will allow for more realistic training and life-like scenarios along with the CPR manikins that meet the standards set by the American Heart Association.

The Stryer Stair-PRO provides breakthrough stairway mobility previously unavailable in any stair chair. Stryker's patented Stair-TREAD system enables operators to move patients up and down stairs without lifting, significantly reducing the risk of operator back injury. It is lightweight and easy to use.

Rescue Randy manikin will be used for training. He is life size at 5'5" and actually weights 145 pounds. He has movable joints, and can be positioned to sit, curl, lie and flex.

The 15th Annual "Pictures with Santa" was held on Sunday November 25th for the children of Halifax and the surronding communities.
