HOW TO JOIN

From International President,Tamra Goodall,CAP-OM, As of April 30, you have recruited 2,107 new members. Thank you for your hard work and your belief in the mission and vision of IAAP. I’m excited about the future of our association. Check out a list of recruiters on the web community and find out more information about the program. Pathways to Excellence submission deadlines are ahead. Don’t miss submitting your Chapter/Division of Excellence forms. There are new deadlines for chapters and divisions so make sure to double check the website for details. Member submissions the deadline is June 30. For more detailed information, including criteria and the audit process visit the Pathways to Excellence website.

Finally, I have to say a few words about EFAM, especially to those who are debating on whether or not to go. Since that first convention I attended 14 years ago I keep going back for more. The education I receive has been invaluable to me in my job. I learn something new every year. One thing that we don’t talk about a lot when we promote the conference is the relationships that come from EFAM but I want to address that with this audience.
IAAP has not only helped me in my job, but it’s transformed me as a person. I have developed confidence and clear direction in my life. Through IAAP, I have strong relationships with so many wonderful people in my chapter, division, on the board, and throughout the association. My tenure in IAAP started in my chapter, but it exploded at EFAM. When I saw the passion and excitement all corralled in one place, at convention in Atlanta in 1998, I was energized and inspired. Moreover, it was the first time I really understood the scope of positive influence that IAAP had. If you haven’t gone, please go to this year’s EFAM in Grapevine, Texas. Invest in yourself. It’s well worth it. You’ll walk away much richer after your first (or second, third, fourth…) EFAM experience. Find out more information, and register, on the IAAP website.

I’m excited about a new program that we’ve developed, free of charge to the chapters. It’s a set of 12 teaching modules for chapter programs, all approved for recertification points. The Constructing Your Career series has been specially developed for IAAP members. Incoming division presidents heard about this at IDPC in Kansas City last month. It will roll out soon.

This is a part of Carol Lundgren,CAP-OM, President’s message in the May PA Division newsletter. The white flag is out, we are on the last lap, and will soon be crossing the finish line of this IAAP year. This is not only the finish line for this year, but for my service on the IAAP board. It has been a great five-year ride. And sometimes it has felt like a NASCAR race, taking me to every corner of Pennsylvania and to a half dozen other states and even Canada.

IAAP has given me the confidence to stand up and give presentations, chair committees, conduct meetings, and walk into rooms and speak to strangers. I’ve always said that IAAP and your job go hand-in-hand. What you learn at one place can be used at the other. If you are chairing committees at IAAP, you can chair committees at work. If you are conducting meetings at work, you can conduct meetings at IAAP. If you present programs at one place, you can present them at the other. I recently heard someone say she wishes she had more confidence. Taking the leap to be a committee chair or officer can help give you the confidence to take an even bigger leap to leadership. This has been a wonderful year and we will be commemorating our numerous successes as we “Celebrate Our Roots” in Lehigh Valley at the 2012 Division Annual Meeting. This is the 60th anniversary of the Division Annual Meeting. I hope that many of you are planning to join us for this jam-packed weekend of networking, education, division business, and fun. The Lehigh Valley Chapter has been working diligently to make this a remarkable weekend. Come join the celebration.

The main goal of the division this year is to increase membership. The April report had us gaining 16 new members
the Pennsylvania Division is on the right track to
"Making the Leap to Remarkable".

Clear-Penn Chapter Will Celebrate its 65th Anniversary in June 2013

IAAP CELEBRATES 70 YEARS

IAAP is celebrating its 70th anniversary in the 2011-2012 year. We’ve going to celebrate with a special anniversary issue of OfficePro and we’d like your help. Here’s how:
*Send us your stories of historical moments and big projects your chapter or division took on. I’m thinking of events such as the year chapters bought billboards to promote Administrative Professionals Day or the Clear Lake/NASA Area Chapter that arraigned for the Space Shuttle Atlantis to carry the IAAP flag on board its mission.
*Were you a part of IAAP during its early years? We’d like to hear from you.
*Share personal accounts of how IAAP has helped your career and how the association has changed with the profession.
*E-mail us your scanned photos that depict unique events for your chapter/division or the profession.

Everything must be e-mailed to officepro@iaap-hq.org. Make sure to put “ANNIVERSARY” in the subject line. We do not guarantee placement in the magazine. Write concisely.
