Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.

"Les Femmes de Bon Temps" chapter #13241 is located in northwestern Pennsylvania. Our members are composed mainly of current and retired public education teachers and close friends. Some of our friendships began as youngsters while attending grade school and/or high school...some while in college and others when we began teaching...still others along the road of life.

An interesting fact is some of our members truly are sisters...twin sisters, biological sisters, sisters-in-law, and even college sorority sisters... but we are ALL sisters at heart.

Les Femmes de Bon Temps RHS chapter is proud to announce that Queen Mumcat is also a member of the "Royal Crown Jewels 'Queens' Council." Membership in this Council consists of RHS chapter Queens from Northwestern Pennsylvania and Northeastern Ohio.

Our Chapter's Name & Beginning

  The first official national Red Hat Society Day was April 25, 2003. It was also the year of "Les Femmes de Bon Temps" first gathering at a local restaurant in downtown Meadville, Pennsylvania.

We are often asked about our chapter's French name. Since we live in the French Creek Valley in northwestern Pennsylvania, we thought this was most appropriate. Our county is one of areas George Washington traveled through in December 1753. Virginia militia officier, Washington went to the French Fort LeBoeuf to deliver the message which ordered the French out of"New France." But the French commander, Jacques Legardeur de Saint-Pierre, politely declined and sent the young Washington home. History records "the rest of the story" when the French and Indian War resulted.

Are there any RHS international rules?

The spirit of the Red Hat Society forbids rules, per se. There is, however, ONE inflexible guideline that we must insist upon:

You must be a woman of 50 or over (or you may be a Pink Hatter under 50), and you must attend functions in full regalia, (red hat, purple outfit for women 50 and over, or pink hat and lavender outfit for women under 50).

Ladies are strongly encouraged to follow these color guidelines, and to NOT wear purple/red until they have reached THE BIRTHDAY. This adds an element of fun to aging, which we think is invaluable to women in our society who have learned to dread aging and avoid it at all costs. We believe that aging should be something anticipated with excitement, not something to dread.

The Red Hat Society encourages its members to adopt and maintain a positive attitude. We believe that the quality of an individual's life is determined, to a very large extent, by her own attitude. We do, in fact, reap what we sow. The sisters of "Les Femmes de Bon Temps" sow only positive thoughts and deeds.

Attitude is – very nearly - everything. There is no denying that good health runs an extremely close second. The better you feel, the more you can do. The more you can do, the more fun you can have! And the sisters of "Les Femmes de Bon Temps" chapter of The Red Hat Society will always be about fun!

Chapter Mews...

When I am an old cat I shall wear a diamond collar
and leave my footprints on white couches;
I shall drink my cream with a touch of brandy
and spit out my vitamins;
I shall sit on the laps of dog people
just to irritate them;
I shall nap on top of the neighbor's petunias
and perch on top of birdbaths and grow charminly chubby.
But for now I must tolerate the dog
and use my litter box and not sharpen my claws on the sofa,
so no one can doubt the truth that cats are superior to dogs!
But every once in a while
I wonder if I should be naughty now and then and nip a few toes,
so my humans won't be too shocked
when suddenly I become an old cat and start to wear a diamond collar.

  Positive Thoughts

You can't change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying over the future!

God always gives HIS best to those who leave the choice with Him.

All people smile in the same language.

Love... and you shall be loved.

Hatitude Thoughts

Welcome to the place where there is fun after fifty (and before) for women of all walks of life. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life and, since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next.

Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out, but I can usually shut her up with cookies

We have a wake-up call opportunity to get real and be real with each other by finding ways to show love, give love, be love, without spending a lot of money.

Old age ain't no place for sissies.
...Bette Davis

We have enough youth.
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first one being - hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.
...Erma Bombeck

I refuse to think of them as chin hairs. I think of them as stray eyebows.
...Janette Barber
