Statement of Presiding Bishop on 'Evolution Sunday' Lutheran Orthodox Church Declaration Of Rejection Of The Celebration Of 'Evolution Sunday' Theory Of Evolution Unproven, Unscriptural and Should Be Rejected By All Christians. We the members of The Lutheran Orthodox Church, in valid Apostolic Succession do hereby declare in this Statement that the celebration of 'Evolution Sunday' which was joined in by over 450 churches around the country on the 197th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin is not compatible with the Christian Faith and Practice, is unscriptural and to be rejected. Despite a number of other Lutheran churches participating, we declare that those who participated in such celebrations do not now, nor ever have spoken for our respective churches. We declare that mankind was created in God's image, and God's image alone, and the unproven theory of evolution is a deceptive tool of the Devil intended to mislead and lead astray even the elect. The Theory of Evolution is not now, nor ever has been compatible with Holy Scripture and should be rejected in its entirety. In addition, we call upon our brethren in other Christian denominations who participated in Evolution Sunday and it's celebrations to recognize the error of lending credence to such an event. Those who participated in this event include The Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Unitarian, Congregationalist, United Church of Christ, Baptist and a host of community based churches. We urge you, our brethren of other denominations, who claim to be Christian, taking a vow to uphold the Holy Scriptures, return to your senses and reject such unbiblical theories, myths and false stories which are perpetrated under the guise of 'advanced human knowlege and understanding' but which are in fact fables and junk science. In addition, The Clergy Letter Project which was signed by over 10,000 clergy which urges school districts to preserve the teaching of evolution is something that is anathema to sound Christian doctrine and those clergy who would sign such a document amount to nothing more than false teachers and betrayers of the Faith Once Delivered. The notion that there can be a truth in evolution as well as a truth in creationism is an absurd notion. There can only be one truth. There can only be evolution, which is an unproven theory or there can be creation by God which is evident to all simply by looking at nature and creation itself. There cannot be two different truths. Christians who answer the Call of God to shepherd the flock must reject anything which is deceptive and a machination of The Devil, and lead their flock in Truth and Light. By not accepting the entire Bible as truth, as God's Word, then the entire Word is declared invalid. The organizer of Evolution Sunday declared "It's to demonstrate by Christian leaders and members of The Clergy, that you don't have to make that choice. You can have both." (referring to evolution and creation). A true Christian leader must reject that statement as one contrary to the faith. We fully reject that statement, and declare that a person must indeed make a choice, a choice of accepting the Word of God as written or not. It is written that all Scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. We urge all 10,000 members of clergy who signed The Clergy Letter Project, as well as the 450 churches which participated in Evolution Sunday to re-examine your position, seek forgiveness of The Lord and return to sound Biblical doctrine and practice. Otherwise you are no more than a blind guide leading the blind and both are destined to fall into the pit. Those who would continue to believe that Darwin's Theory of Evolution was God's way of creating things and yet continue to shepherd the flock entrusted in your care are nothing more than whitewashed graves, giving the appearance of purity, by an outward showing of righteousness, but inside are full of dead mens bones. In conclusion, we declare that any Christian who would participate in Evolution Sunday celebrations, and any clergy who would sign the Clergy Letter Project cannot be considered Christian, cannot be in communion with The Body of Christ, and are on the road to condemnation and reserved to be as those who are to be found outside the gate, wailing and nashing their teeth, as the Bridegroom prepares His feast. |
