KLONDIKE DERBY 2008(January 26, 2008)

Rrrr, mateys! On Saturday, January 26, 2008, Akelaland at Camp Trexler was overrun by pirates and able bodied crew members of 20 boats. The theme this year was “Pirates of the Klondike.”

This was a fun event! Thirteen troops and 135 scouts were present for the event. Instead of points, boats (patrols) competed for gold pieces of eight. The first place winner was Boat #5, Troop 431 with 77 pieces of gold, second place was Boat #20, Troop 22 with 76 pieces of gold and tied for third place were Boat #8, Troop 439 and Boat #19, Troop 70 with 74 pieces of gold. A special thanks to the “Pirates” of the OA Chapter, Pohopoco, for boarding and ransacking the boats. A real nice 32 pound cannonade was constructed by Ben Stoudt, Troop 58!!!

A very special thanks to Captain AJ “Morgan” Kotz, who sailed all the way from the beautiful Caribbean Island of Port Royal to chair this fantastic event. (What a GREAT costume, especially the parrot.)

His first mate, Brad Schmoyer was chair for the Webelos event, taking place at the same time with 16 Webelos representing four packs.

For all you landlubbers, you missed the boat!

Pack 5 participated in the Emmaus Halloween Parade this past Friday. They won Second place the small float division.

They were joined by several members of Troop 5. The theme was pinewood derby and many of the cubs had boxes decorated as race cars.

For all you landlubbers, you missed the boat!
