News
NARFE-PAC is our Political Action Committee (PAC). Created in 1982, NARFE-PAC is a separate, segregated fund that collects, administers and disburses the voluntary contributions of NARFE members to candidates for Congress on a bipartisan basis. Like all federal PACs, NARFE-PAC was chartered in compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA), a post-Watergate reform to account for the growing sums of money in American elections. Throughout all its history, NARFE-PAC has complied with both the letter and the spirit of FECA and Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations.

NEWS FROM NARFE

With Senate races in Alaska, Georgia and Minnesota still outstanding, Democrats have won at least six Senate seats now held by Republicans. Democrats defeated three Republican incumbents.
In North Carolina state Sen. Kay Hagan scored a come-from-behind win over Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole , in New Hampshire, former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen defeated Sen. John E. Sununu in a rematch of their closely contested 2002 race and in Oregon, State House Speaker, Jeff Merkley, won a close contest with incumbent Sen. Gordon Smith.
Democrats also won seats left open by retiring Republican incumbents in Colorado (Mark Udall), New Mexico (Tom Udall) and Virginia (Mark Warner).

There are 7 House races not yet decided. The Democrats net gain in House elections stands at 19. This could change but 6 of the seven remaining districts are now held by Republicans. 23 districts changed from Republican to Democrat when Democrats won 10 seats left open by Republican departures and 13 incumbent Republicans lost to the Democratic challenger. In the 4 Republican takeovers (FL-16, KS-2, LA-6, and TX-22) the incumbent Democrat was defeated by the Republican challenger.

A complete list of House districts and Senate seats where the incumbent was NOT re-elected will run in the January issue of NARFE

Congressional Quarterly (www.cqpolitics.com) continues to make content, that many pay handsomely to obtain, available for free. (Profiles of the new Members-Elect is available at http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=158 For an excellent summary of this still unfinished election cycle go to

Most first time winners will have had little exposure to the federal civil service. Chapter and federation outreach resulting in individual or group meetings should cover income security and health security issues.

The period prior to their swearing-in ceremonies in January, is an excellent time to meet the Members-Elect in their hometowns and begin their education.

Be sure to provide them with recent issues of our magazine and position papers on high priority issues from the Legislative section at the new NARFE web site, www.narfe.org/home.

NARFE CREDIT UNION

NARFE Premier Federal Credit Union, originally chartered in 1935 as the Civil Service Commission Federal Credit Union, is a not-for-profit organization serving all active and retired federal employees across the great US of A, as well as Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.

With a unique cashless operation focused on remote member delivery channels, NARFE Premier is a twenty-four seven financial institution…understanding your need to bank when you want to, not when you have too.

With dynamic, caring employees, our vision is to create financial goals with our membership and partner with them to make those goals a reality. Whether it’s through our personal touch points like the 24/7 Contact Center or visiting our cyber branch on the world wide web, NARFE Premier Federal Credit Union has working financial options for busy people across many lands.

Our fresh thoughts and direction are championed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are committed to the credit union movement. In addition, our strategic alliance with the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association not only strengthens our commitment to educate the federal sector on pre-retirement and investment/insurance options, but also provide the credit union a national platform to share our financial benefits and features to 1,650 Chapters in 50 state Federations, including Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.

And while we respect traditional values, we embrace progressive thought. NARFE Premier Federal Credit Union will continue to invest in its infrastructure and challenge existing processes…all in an effort to be more efficient and time cognizant of you and your families schedule.

We are proud of our history at the credit union and appreciate the thoughts, ideas, and efforts of too many people to name. However, one voice will always remain clear…and that is from you…the membership. We will do our best to take you where you want to go…we are…National Banking…when and where you need us!
