North Fork Chapter 29        

Chartered in 2004, North Fork 29 is the newest active Chapters that comprise the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.

The Chapter is dedicated to the gathering and sharing of information and helping to educate ourselves and others about all aspects of local archaeology.

 
Chapter Meetings 

Chapter 29 meets on the 3rd Friday of each month (except June, July and December) at 7:00 PM at the Jefferson County History Center at 172-176 Main Street in Brookville.

Meetings are Free and the public is invited.

Chapter meetings are held in the 2nd floor education room. Parking is available at the rear of the building. Please use the metal ramp at the rear entrance directly to the second floor. .

 
Chapter Goals

  • To promote the study of archaeology in Pennsylvania

  • Encourage careful scientific research and excavation in this field and to discourage careless and misdirected digging

  • Promote the conservation and preservation of important archaeological sites and the passage of laws prescribing such
  •  

  • Oppose the manufacture and sale of fraudulent antiquities

  • Encourage the establishment of local archaeological displays at museums and organizations

  • Promote the spread of archaeological knowledge by means of meetings, presentations and publications, and to serve as a bond between the individual archaeologists and collectors
  •  
    Archaeology Projects

    The chapter is currently in the planning stages of helping excavate at several archaeological sites in the region. No experience is needed. Join and learn!

    The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology

    was organized in 1929 as an organization devoted to the interests of Archaeology in Pennsylvania and foster information exchange between amateur and professional archaeologists. Currently there are 16 chapters active across the Commonwealth.

    The parent archaeological society, meets annually during the last weekend of April at announced places within Pennsylvania. Membership in the SPA is highly recommended and includes “The Pennsylvania Archaeologist” published twice a year which is a nationally renowned as a scholarly scientific journal which serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information through site reports and articles. Many of the previous issues of the Pennsylvania Archaeologist are available and can be accessed along with membership information at the link to the SPA’s website.
