January Iditarod Race Rules

At our January Pack Meeting, Pack 86 will conduct our annual Iditarod Race. This is a fun-filled event for all the boys who complete for bragging rights. Rules are copied below for your reference. Safety is paramount - "mushers" must wear a helmet. See you at the race!

Sled Construction

1. Cardboard box with a rug (piling facing out) secured on the bottom. The carpet piling must be the only contact with the floor.

2. Box must be large enough to fit the “musher” in the seated position.

3. Cut 2, ½-inch holes in the front of the “sled” to allow the “dog rope” to slide into.

4.(The dog/musher rope will be provided)

Musher Safety

1. Musher must wear a bike helmet while riding in the sled (helmet to be supplied by the den)

2. Parent volunteers will be stationed at each turn

Racing Course

1. Starting line is in front of the stage. The best time for two laps through the hallway and cafeteria will determine the winner in each grouping.

2. “Dogs” will be the boys in each den.

3. If time permits, we will have each Den run twice and take the best of the two times.

Miscellaneous

1. Themed or decorated sleds and Scouts are encouraged.

2. Bring your camera

3. Come to laugh and enjoy a great race!
