Red Hat Meeting - July 18, 2005

Las Vegas was wonderful. Jeanie and I had a great time but were exhausted. The next convention is in New Orleans so if you are interested, you need to start planning now!
We had a very hot meeting on Monday but the group had fun. Sharyn Kmieciak and Nancy woods were the only two hosts since the others scheduled could not made the meeting… I want to applaud them for the fine job they did. They provided all the refreshments.

Carousel The trip to see the Carousel is July 28 at 8pm. The bus will pick us up at 5:30 pm at St Nick’s parking lot. We will stop for a quick bite to eat or if you do not want to eat, you can have a refreshment. The show is at 8pm.

Rockettes The Rockette trip is schedule for Saturday, November 12 at 2pm. We will also take a bus for that trip. A 20% deposit was due at the time of the booking. Jeanie Evans and I used our credit cards to get the tickets so if you are signed up to go, you need to pay ASAP or your ticket will be given to someone else. Cost is $50.00. You can pay the $10.00 deposit now or the entire $50.00. All the ticket money is due no later than August 15. We must pay the remaining balance by the end of August or we lose the seats. Bus money will be due October 1.

Red Hat Hoot -
Sunday, August 21. 1:00pm at Saint Nick’s Pavilion
Cost is $5.00 plus a covered dish.
You can bring hubby, boyfriend, lover, brother sister, and friend.
We have some wonderful games and nice prizes plus some surprise entertainment
This is REALLY going to be a HOOT!
Hat Decorating Contest
Ladies go into your attics or to the Goodwill store and get out that ugly old lampshade.
Decorate it as a hat
Use your imagination
It can be ugly
It can be funny
It can be beautiful
Spray it red
Spray it purple
It must be able to be worn
The 3 best hats win a great prize

Ladies, start bringing your kazoos and wax lips to functions so we can sing our alma mater. When I see pictures of other red hats, they always have their lips on for group pics and have their kazoos with them. We are going to sing our alma mater before each meeting. If you lost your kazoo or lips, you can get them both at the party store in Belle Vernon very cheap.

We discussed an outing for September and October. I brought brochures for the Just Ducky Tours in Pittsburgh and Miss Martha’s tearoom in Scottdale. The Ducky is an amphibian, goes under water and on land, and takes you on a tour of Pittsburgh and I have heard people rave about it. Sharyn Kmieciak also suggested going to the Evergreen Drive-In at Mount Pleasant. People bring lawn chairs, coolers and sit outside and watch the movie; sort of like a tailgate party. Let me know what you would like to do.

PJ party will be sometime in September. Date to be announced.

We have three pink hatters turning red this fall so at our November meeting, we are going to have a birthday theme and celebrate all three. Now. If they will only show up!

Finally, anyone wanting to see where the money goes is more than welcome to see the books. They are brought to every meeting. You are welcome to see them. Please just ask.

Ladies, if you have not attended a meeting for several months, please let me know if you are still interested in being a member of the group. I always have women who want to join. I would like to keep our membership at 50 so if you are inactive, you will be put on an inactive status. I understand if you are caring for someone who is ill but we are all tired and most of us work. The meetings are for relaxation and to enjoy each other’s company, not something that you dread coming to. I spend the entire day on Monday before the meeting preparing, printing and researching to get ready for the meeting. It is a lot of work. The meetings are being kept brief because of the heat. Please try to attend.

Mary Clark has agreed to chair a committee to make a Perry Purple Passions cookbook as a fundraiser. Anyone that wants to be on her committee or contribute recipes, please contact Mary Clark. Addresses and Buddy Lists are done and will be sent out. If I have left anyone out, please contact me. All email ladies were given a buddy that does not have email. She is responsible for printing newsletters and sending them to her buddy. The buddy that does not have email is to provide her with envelopes or stamps. I have given all the envelopes that you gave to me to your email buddy. She will also call you to remind you of anything important coming up. If your email buddy does not follow through with sending you newsletters, please contact me and I will give you to another buddy.
Our next meeting will be held on September 19, at 6pm at Saint Nick’s. Hosts will be Lorraine Pascarella, Peggy Layton, and Carol Hamilla. Since these women are all rather new members, I put myself on their committee to help them out. Ladies if you have not hosted, please sign up. It is not hard and everyone needs to take a turn.

The Queen has selected some new officers and chair people.
Connie Fuller - Queen ( no one else wants this job)!
Jeanie Evans & Ginny McDowell - Vice Queens
Carol Shanefelter- Treasurer
Norma Bordash - Tip Board Lady and Game Planner
Mary Ann Mehallick - Assistant to the Queen
Janet Sacane & Lorraine Pascarella - Memory Makers (album)
Pat Filak & Mary Ann Coughanour - Trip Planner
Pat Filak - Songbird
Mary Clark - Chair lady Perry Purple Passions Cookbook
We are getting together a committee for the Pioneer Day Float. We will meet at Carol Shanefelter’s house. Anyone interested being on the committee, please let me know. This is a big project but if several ladies work together, it can be fun. Last year, we drank wine as we worked and laughed so hard. It was a lot of fun. Of course, I will be on that committee.

Poverty Neck Hillbillies are coming to Charleroi in September. Please let me know if you are interested! We could do dinner and the Hillbilly show. Future trips September -Hillbillies or the Just Ducky Tours in Pittsburgh. October - Tea Room

Your Queen Bee, Connie Fuller
