FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHY DO WE NEED TO SUPPLY BIRTH CERTIFICATES FOR BASEBALL/SOFTBALL REGISTRATION? SAPPARA participates in three different leagues: 1) Central Whitehall League (T-BALL & Baseball), 2) Parkland League (Softball) and 3) Lehigh Valley League (Baseball). When team rosters are submitted to the leagues, we are required to furnish a copy of the player’s birth certificate for proof of age. Players who do not provide a birth certificate are not allowed to be placed on a roster and therefore cannot participate. WHY DO WE NEED TO PROVIDE PHYSICIAN AND HEALTH INSURANCE INFORMATION FOR BASEBALL/SOFTBALL REGISTRATION? SAPPARA strives for excellence in many areas – one being safety. Each head coach is provided a medical release form for every player on his/her team. The medical information must be in the possession of the head coach at every practice and game. The medical release form provides critical information to the coaches, umpires, parents, etc., in case of an emergency. This way our coaches are prepared to provide the best emergency care to your child. I AM NEW TO SAPPARA. IS MY MEMBERSHIP AND BASEBALL/SOFTBALL REGISTRATION DONE ON-LINE? Absolutely. A lot of time was spent generating a computerized system to perform baseball/softball registrations. 2002 is the first year that new SAPPARA members will no longer manually fill out forms. We estimate that from start to completion – your registration time should take no longer than 10 minutes. I AM A RETURNING SAPPARA MEMBER. HOW WILL THE ON-LINE MEMEBRSHIP AND BASEBALL/SOFTBALL REGISTRATION PROCESS AID ME? Immensely! Prior to 2001, anyone registering a player at SAPPARA had to manually complete 4+ forms – every year. Our new computerized system eliminates all manual forms. When you show up at registration we simply validate the date we have stored in our computer, change any information required and press one button to pre-print all forms required for the registration process.
2001 SEASON EXAMPLE: We timed a sample registration during our 2001 season. What used to take 30+ minutes of finding a pencil and completing the forms, took 5 minutes from start to finish – which included:
MY CHILD IS 4 YEARS OLD – CAN THEY STILL PLAY? We handle each player on a case-by-case basis. Rule of thumb – if they turn 5 shortly after August 1st and are starting kindergarten that year, then we allow them to play T-BALL. For exact information submit a question or stop by one of the registration dates. |
