MEETINGS OF THE DELAWARE RIVER SHAD FISHERMEN'S ASSOCIATION: The next meeting is MAY 16, 2012 of the Delaware River Shad Fishermen's Association and will get under way at 7:00 PM, at the Se-Wy-Co Firehouse Social Hall, located at 3610 Rt.378, Bethlehem (Lower Saucon) (from Google Maps), 1 mile south of Bethlehem. Speaker will be from Delaware telling of their success in returning shad to two river systems.

Come out and find out how the shad run is going (It looks like a good one!). We will be reviewing the progress on getting a shad hatchery built locally, the Shad in Schools program, and Youth Fishing and Education Day, as well as our schedule of shows we will be participating in, among other interesting topics. Please try to attend this meeting, it should be very interesting.

The May meeting will be on May 18, 2011 at 7 PM. Come out and hear about the progress of this year's shad run as well as how the shad programs are going.

The DRSFA meets at 7:00 PM on the third Wednesday of each month except July, August, and December at the Se-Wy-Co Fire Company on Rt. 378 south of Bethlehem, PA. Email ronaldmarks2@aol.com for information or with any questions.

ACTIVITIES:

SHAD HATCHERY - We are making progress with the US Fish & Wildlife Service in setting up a shad hatchery to put more young shad in the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers. Come to the January meeting and hear the latest updates.

SHAD IN SCHOOLS Program - Involving students in shad restoration efforts and conservation in the Delaware River and its tributaries.

YOUTH FISHING EDUCATION DAY - Will be held next June 19, 2012. Free program teaching youth about fishing and the environment. We will take 100 applications. They always have a great time learning all about fishing. Email Dave Carl at fisherman_dcarl@yahoo.com.

SHAD TRANSFER - In order to help shad get above dams and fish ladders on the Lehigh River we will try to set up a program to transport spawning shad to areas above these obstacles.

Donate - Needed Items: 8 ft. folding tables for flea market, sportsmen's shows, Youth Fishing Education Day and other fundraising and educational activities; hot dog roller, popcorn maker.

Ideas - to raise funds for our projects to help the Delaware River American Shad.

March 13, 2011: DRSFA Fishermen's Flea Market and Sportsmen's Show at Sewyco Social Hall on Rt. 378, Bethlehem, PA. 8 AM to 2 PM. Tables still available. Email ronaldmarks2@aol.com for information.

August 26 - 28, 2011: LV Hunting and Fishing Extravaganza will be held at the Kempton Fairgrounds. Email Dave at fisherman_dcarl@yahoo.com if you can help at our booth next year.
