SMOCK FAMILY PHOTO CIRCA 1918

Robert Smock recently emailed me the attached photo with the following information: "Here is a picture that I received from our cousin Myra in Penna. As we are guessing, it could of been taken in 1918 at the funeral of Marion "Badger" Smock, our great grandfather. As Ed says, the "ladies" look like they all have handkerchiefs & of course everyone is dressed in black, & they don't look very "happy". Bottom row L to R...Betty, Liz (Elizabeth), Jake (our grandfather), Granny Smock (Sarah Jane), & (not sure of name could be Hannah. Top row L to R...Pete, Mance (Samantha), Frank, Georgiana, Glen, & Dink (Blanche). Hope I got these right! Picture could of been taken at house on Arch St. in Belle Vernon. We may have more pictures coming, I hope so. It is so moving to actually see faces of those who we only new mostly by name. Enjoy!"

UPDATE - January 2, 2003 - Myra Dolence emailed me with the following clarifications to the photo: "Just to make a couple of things clear. The lady in the bottom row on the end is Aunt Hannah or Hahn as she was called. The fourth person in the top row is my grandmother and her name was Georgie - not Georgiana. I have been to Salt Lake City and looked up a number of things and her name is Georgie. Don't know why they names girls some of the names they did back then because I have Aunts named Jessie and Maggie." Thanks to Myra for the photo and update. If anyone has photos of Sam Smock, please let us know.

OLD PHOTO OF SAM SMOCK'S SON NOAH AND FAMILY

Noah Smock is in the middle with son Samuel Martin on the left and son Orville on the right and grandmother Mary June (Spence) Smock above.

This photo was sent from Kansas by Gene Smock. He noted that the photo had survived a flood in 1944. It is a great picture. Thanks, Gene!

SMOCKS VISIT OUR MUSEUM

In the summer of 2002, Bob and Donna Smock from Texas, Pat and Bob Smock of Pennsylvania, and Donna Mae (Smock) and Clarence Watson of Montana visited our town and the Heritage Museum. Below is a picture taken during their visit. They enjoyed their visit and hopefully will come visit us again. Thanks for the picture, Bob!

SMOCKS VISIT SMOCK
We received a pleasant surprise on Saturday, August 16, 2003 as 8 Smock descendants visited our museum.

Edwin Smock from Virginia was in town for his 50th high school reunion. Here he is on our porch swing with classmate Dorothy Carter of Pine Bush, NY. Edwin is descended from Abraham Smock, Sam Smock's cousin.

Then, later in the day, Smocks from the Erie, PA area visited us. They are descendants of Leonard Smock. Back row: Sara and Dave Smock of Conneautville, PA; Peter and Dorothy Smock of Springboro, PA. In the front row are Peter and Dorothy's daughters: Holly, Kelly and Julie.

It was their first visit to our town and museum and we had a great time showing them all our treasures. It is always great to meet new people who have connections to our town.

KANSAS SMOCKS

Gene Smock from Kansas has contributed to this site for quite sometime. Now in 2003, we finally get to meet the Smock who isn't used to Holupki Dinners and patch town life.
