Descendants of Samuel Smock joined us for the Homecoming:
Vera Fike, Edwin Smock, and Myra Dolence reunite after many, many years.
Folks gathered around the bar on Sunday at the Museum. From L to r: Bernie Link, Vilma Shumaker, Bernice Rocheck, and Bradley Shumaker. Bernice tended bar and served ginger ale and root beer as well as the pagash and cabbage soup made by her mother, Mary Spooner.
This beautiful painted of the Samuel Smock Homestead was handpainted by Sabra Smock of Belle Vernon, PA.
Visitors spent alot of time trying to identify relatives in the pictures at the museum.

Former Smock resident Walter Rayman shows the French Medal of Honor which he recently received as a veteran of D-Day. He was one of 100 veterans invited to France to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Walter worked at Jendrall's Store in Smock before he joined the army at 17 - he left his house and told his mom that he was going to join but that the army would not take him so young. But they did and he was a group squadron leader at age 19 when they landed on France's shores. After the war, his paperwork was lost and it took an extra 6 months for him to return to the US. He settled in New York where he ran into a young woman from Smock(coincidence or fate?) and they later married. We are working on getting Walter's name on the memorial in Smock. (That's a promise, Walter!)
THE 12th SMOCK HOMECOMING July 27-28, 2002
WHAT A WEEKEND! So many former residents of Smock returned home this past weekend and what a turnout we had for the 12th Homecoming! Over 250 people came to the dinner/dance held on Saturday night. People had fun reminiscing and talking about old times. We enjoyed the stories and remembered those who could not join us. The Dynasonics had everyone doing the polka! Then on Sunday, the Heritage Museum was packed as people took a trip back in time. Now we can take a deep breath, look at the pictures below, and get some rest until the next homecoming in 2004!
