Feburary 18th: Landowners Conference in Fryburg. See details in NW PA Events above

March 15th, Tour of Seneca Hardwoods at 10:00 AM. We will meet at their mill on Route 38 in Nickelville. We will tour all three of their facilities ending at the Hardwood Mall in Emlenton.

April 21, 2012 – Trail maintenance program at ANF at Maple Creek.

May 2012 – (date to be determined) Audubon Society Warbler Walk.

June 23, 2012 – WOCAV annual picnic in Cook Forest State Park. Catering provided by O’Neil’s catering.

December 6, 2011

President Jackie Waldorf called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

Jackie welcomed WOCAV member Jim Ross to the meeting.

Present: Dave Fowler, Gene Whited, George Schmader, Jackie Waldorf, Mark Orlic, Layne Giering, Dennis Waldorf, Joanne Gibson, Duane Harriger, Joe Lowrie, Lee Swoger

George Schmader made a motion to accept the minutes from the October meeting. Dennis Waldorf seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Joe Lowrie presented the Treasurer’s report.

Beginning balance: $2026.90

Income: 60.00

Expenses: 35.20

Current balance: $2051.70

Income included membership renewals and the refund from Penn State due to the cancellation of the conference. This month’s expenses were the purchase of stamps for the holiday party invitations.

Joanne Gibson made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report. It was seconded by Layne Giering and passed unanimously.

Old Business:

-RSVP count for the holiday party is currently 30. Jackie will send an e-mail to the membership reminding them of the date.

-No one from the board attended the Tree Farm Field Day which was held on October 22.

-Guy Dunkle from the Foundation for Sustainable Forests will set up brochures at the February 2012 Landowner’s Conference and he would like to make a presentation at the 2013 conference.

-Dave and Betsy Fowler attended the presentation given by intern Robin Baker at Oil Creek State Park on October 16. The subject was “Enhancement for Wildlife Habitat” and Dave reported that it was an excellent presentation. The board will attempt to schedule Robin to present the program to WOCAV.

New Business:

-The board approved that a membership be extended to the family of Carolyn and Harold Hartley who have moved out of town.

-An e-mail was received from Deb Freed of the Seneca Rocks Audubon Society inviting the membership to attend a program at the Clarion Free Library on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Linda Ordiway from the Ruffed Grouse Society will speak on early successional habitat for the Ruffed Grouse.

Program Updates:

December 15 – WOCAV Christmas party 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the DCNR office. Jackie and Joanne will set up at 5:30 p.m.

January 19, 2012 – Tour of Allegheny Mountain Flooring and Showroom is set for 10:00 a.m. Duane Harriger has coordinated the tour with Pat Best and we are to meet at the mill. Following the showroom tour we will meet for lunch at the Foxburg pizza shop.

February 18, 2012 – Landowner’s Conference 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

March 15, 2012 – Tour of Seneca Hardwood and the Hardwood Mall. George Schmader is coordinating the event. Lunch will be at the Plaza.

April 21, 2012 – Trail maintenance program. Layne Giering and Lee Swoger are coordinating this event. We will meet at the Maple Creek section of the North Country Trail (tentatively set for 10:00 a.m.) and then tour an early succession management area.

May 2012 – (date to be determined) Audubon Society Warbler Walk. George Schmader is in contact with the local organization.

June 23, 2012 – WOCAV annual picnic in Cook Forest State Park. The committee is George Schmader, Dennis and Jackie Waldorf and Mark Orlic. George has reserved the pavilions and Jane has obtained a menu from O’Neil’s catering. Cecile provided contacts for an archeology program. They are Amanda Glass and Gary Dunn. Marc Orlic suggested a presentation on the effects of mine acid reclamation of Tom’s Run that was a project of Kristin Williams, a graduate student at the university.

The next board meeting will be held on January 3, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by Dave Fowler.

The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
