My name is Sue Garner. I am a certified teacher of Irish Dance. I have been teaching in the State College area since November 2002.

I am originally from New Jersey. I started Irish dance classes at the age of 4 from Una Ellis.
I taught in Rockland County, New York for 5 years before moving to this area in 1982. My husband and I have 5 children. When my oldest graduated from high school in 2002, I decided to start teaching again.

I offer classes from children age 3 and up thru adult. While emphasizing the importance of hand and feet placement, timing, and the proper execution of steps, I also stress the importance of having fun.

Irish dancing gives students the chance to perform in front of people, which in turn builds their self-confidence. My students have performed at various local events, including Special Olympics Closing Ceremonies, Peoples Choice Festival, Lemont Summer Series, Our Lady of Victory SummerFest, St. John's SummerFest, Lewisburg Celtic Days, Boalsburg Heritage Days and Bellefonte Childrens Fair. My students have also performed with Cherish the Ladies and at the State College Spikes Baseball Games.

The structure of my classes is very flexible. You are not required to do performances or competitions. If you just want to learn steps and Ceilidh dancing, that's fine. If you are taking Irish dancing as an exercise program, that's ok too. I want everyone to learn, have fun, and dance to their highest potential.

Most dance studios have a recital at the end of the year to showcase what the students have learned. However, I have a picnic/ceilidh in the barn at our farm. The kids get to play in the creek, ride a pony, find kittens, etc. We have a great time!
