My name is Sue Garner. I
am a certified teacher of Irish Dance.
I have been teaching in the State
College area since 2002.
I am originally from New Jersey.
I started taking Irish dance at the age of 4 from Una Ellis.
I taught in Rockland County, New York for 5 years before moving to the
State College area in 1982.
I offer classes for children (ages 3
and up) through adult.
While emphasizing the importance of hand and feet placement, timing,
and the execution of steps,
I also stress the importance of having fun.
Irish dance gives students the opportunity to perform in front of
people, which in turn builds their
self-confidence. My students have performed at various
local events including Special Olympics Closing Ceremonies,
Lemont Summer Series, St. John's SummerFest, Our Lady of Victory
SummerFest, People's Choice Festival,
Lewisburg Celtic Days, Boalsburg Heritage Days and Bellefonte
Children's Fair.
My students have also performed with Cherish the Ladies and at the
State College Spikes
and Altoon Curve Baseball pre-game shows.
The structure of my classes is very flexible. Your are not
required to do performances or competition.
I have some students who just want to learn steps and do some Ceilidh
dancing.
Others take Irish step dancing for the fitness benefits.
One unique aspect of my dance school is the end-of-year picnic.
Instead of a recital, I host a picnic at our farm
outside of Bellefonte. The kids get to play in the creek, ride a
pony, look for kittens, etc.
It's a lot of fun and everyone looks forward to it each year!
