|An overview of our Center |
In 1977, the agency became incorporated and moved to the "Kocher Building" located on Clearfield Street in Elizabethville, where we have continued providing services to our communities. This October, the Center celebrates 41 years of service - still thriving.
The Center is community "supported". We receive no governmental funding. We are a Program Partner of the United Way of the Capital Region we are or have in the past received grants and/or financial support from the following: The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, Tour de Millersburg, Darden Foundation, Millersburg Community Trust and ECLA Domestic Hunger Grant. The Center is supported by our local community through donations and contributions by individuals, churches, businesses and other organizations. With the continued support of these grants and the community commitment, the Center is able to look to the future.
The Center operates a Food Bank and a Clothing Bank. Both of these programs can be accessed Monday through Friday, during the hours of 9:00 - 11:00am and 1:30 - 3:30pm. The clothing bank can be accessed one time per week by an individual and/or family. To satisfy these increased requests, we need your help!
The Center continues to provide toys to children for Christmas. This program began in the early 1980's and exists yet today. Board members and volunteers coordinate this program and conduct the distribution to the families. The gratification they get out of being able to give to those less fortunate goes beyond words.
Our annual children's program is supported by our local fire and EMS companies who conduct toy drives, which are then given to the center for distribution at Christmas. The center providers, on an average, toys and gifts to 300 children.
Last year, we provided toys, clothing, winter wear and gifts to 351 children. We do operate a clothing bank on a daily basis, however, we believe that at Christmas time children deserve to have new things.
A donation of toys and gifts for children can be made directly to the center at anytime.
Any and all donations may be dropped off at the Upper Dauphin Human Services Center at 517 Main Street in Lykens Monday through Friday - 7:30am to 4:00pm. If you would like to make special arrangements, or would like to disucss any needs we may have, you can reach us at 717-453-8299.
YOU make a difference in a life we servce!
