FROM THE BOARD
The purpose of the PTO is:
To develop and maintain closer relationships among the students, parents, teachers and administrators of the Whitehall-Coplay Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
To develop and maintain among such students, parents and teachers and administrators a united program to promote the highest qualities in the academic, mental, physical, social and moral education of those students.
Our PTO has a strong membership with very active parent volunteers and dedicated teacher representatives. However, monthly meeting attendance is relatively low. You may miss out on having your voice heard when it is needed most. Our members are the heart of our organization; they determine the course of action we need to take!
How to become involved:
- Read, fill out and return the volunteer form your child brings home the first day of school.
- Attend the volunteer orientation meeting at your child's school to see how you can become involved. At these orientations there will be a brief description of the volunteer opportunities available followed by a tour of the school. Light refreshments will also be served!
- Be a Volunteer! Gockley volunteer orientation is Wednesday, September 10 at 9:30 am in the Cafeteria. Steckel volunteer orientation is Tuesday, September 9th at 9:30am in the Cafeteria. Middle School volunteer orientation is Tuesday, September 16th at 9am in the Cafeteria. There is no volunteer orientation at the High School. If you want to be a volunteer in the High School fill out and return your volunteer form or email Tracie at terney@rcn.com.
HELP WANTED: PTO is strictly volunteer positions and if we don't have individuals to dedicate themselves to their students; then the students will miss out on programs, fun events, field trips, and supplies.
P. a father or a mother. A protector or guardian.
T. a person who teaches or instructs, esp. as a profession; instructor.
O. a group of persons organized from some end or work; association: a nonprofit organization.

The Whitehall Coplay PTO consists of an Executive Board which is the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary. The remainder of the board is composed of committee chairpersons and faculty. Committees include Fundraisers, Spirit Sale, Hot Dog Wagon, Holiday Party and Children’s Day to name a few. There are many others, some of which have openings.
The PTO meets monthly to discuss upcoming events and report on the previous months occurrences. If you think you would be interested in becoming involved on a committee you are welcome to attend any PTO meeting.
All meetings are open to the public. They occur on the third Tuesday of each month and rotate schools. These meetings start promptly at 7pm. For a complete listing of our PTO meeting dates please see the bottom of the membership form your child will bring home the first week of school.
If you are unable to become a volunteer please be sure to become involved in our annual Membership Drive. Becoming a member DOES NOT make you an automatic volunteer. The Membership Drive strives to provide funding directly to the schools for programs, folders, Tournament Day, chorus t-shirts, freshman orientation and senior scholarships. This of course can not happen without your continued support through our annual Membership Drive. The 2008-2009 PTO Membership drive will start the first week of school. Your family membership of only $ 8.00 can help the PTO realize many projects for this year. One membership covers all of your children grades K through 12. The PTO Membership Chairpersons will be having a contest to see which classroom come closest to 100% participation. Each class in grades K through 8 who gets closest to 100% by October 24th will receive a celebration of their teacher’s choice paid for by the PTO.
Gockley, Steckel and the Middle School will be offering more than one fundraiser this fall. Feel free to pick one fundraiser or participate in them all. Gockley and Steckel’s fundraiser is Cherrydale. These schools will also be selling Entertainment Books, KidStuff Books and Enjoy the City books as well. All of these fundraisers start Friday Sept. 12. All information will be sent home on this day. The Middle School will be participating in the QSP magazine sale. The magazine sale will kick off Tuesday, September 9th. The PTO is also going to be having a spirit sale this fall with a pick up date in time for the holidays. Be sure to check out our new items and new logo!
Market Day
Market Day is a great hit!
We are continuing this “fundraiser” this year. September’s Market Day pick up will be Friday, September 12th from 4:00-5:30pm in the Middle School Cafeteria. September's orders are due back in the office by Thursday Sept 4 and internet orders are due by noon on Saturday, Sept 6th. October’s Market Day pick up will be Friday, October 10th from 4:00-5:30pm in the Middle School Cafeteria. Orders are due back in the office by Thursday, October 2nd; internet orders are due by noon on Saturday October 4th. If you are interested in helping with Market Day either by making reminder phone calls or helping on the day of pick up please contact Rhonda Bastian at Rhondavipvactions@rcn.com.
