About 60 mushroom lovers gathered to learn about mushroom cultivation. Participants drilled holes in oak logs, filled the holes with spawn, sealed them with wax and took the logs home. Placed in a shady spot, the logs should produce shiitake mushrooms next spring, and for the following six years. The event was co-sponsored by WOSA, the Western PA Mushroom Club, and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture(PASA).

As a follow-up to Bryan's message at the 2008 Conference, he will offer direction to pond owners who know what they want to manage for.

Directions from Bedford:
Take I-99 north for eight miles to the Osterburg/Rt. 869 exit, turn right onto 869. Go 100 yards, then turn right again onto Kaufman Hollow Road. Stay on Kaufman Hollow Road for 1.5 miles until a “Y” intersection. Bear left onto Oppenheimer Road. After .8 miles look for small sign on left marking entrance to the Whispering Creek Retreat Center.
