Saturday, July 21, 9 a.m. - Tree Walk in Downtown Bedford

Wednesday, September 19, 9 a.m. - Clearcut tour

WOSA will sponsor a tour of a clearcut on Evitt's Mountain in Dutch Corner on Wednesday, September 19th at 9 am. The 2-hour tour is free and open to the public.

In 2009, Frank Antonson needed some extra income, so he decided to cut some of his timber. Instead of taking the first offer that came along, he hired a consulting forester to market his timber for him. Mr. Antonson also gave the forester specific directions to conduct the clearcut in a part of the property that had experienced a significant amount of death due to repeated defoliation by gypsy moth caterpillars. Mr. Antonson and his forester, Andy Blazewicz, Jr., will be available to answer questions during the tour.

Participants should wear long pants and sturdy hiking shoes, as walking will be over steep and rocky terrain. A WOSA Board meeting will be held at the Ivy Stone restaurant after the tour, starting at noon. All WOSA members are invited to attend.

From I-99: exit at Osterburg Exit (Route 869) Go east. Turn right onto Kaufman Hollow Road for 1.5 miles. Bear left onto Oppenheimer Road for 1.4 miles. We will meet at 9 AM on the left side of Oppenheimer Road and drive part way up the mountain from there. Board meeting to follow at Slick's Ivy Stone.
