The 2010-2011 school year starts on August 30.

Fun Day was so awesome! The parents who attended said it was fun and "adorable." More importantly the kids had a blast at the "beach!"

Congratulation Kindergarteners!

We are excited to announce that we raised enough money to purchase 3 sets of chicks, 3 goats, and 3 pigs to donate to Haiti through the Heifer Society. Congratulations!

Summer is here and everyone deserves the time to relax and have fun! Remember to keep reading and work on your math packet. The reward for completing the math packet and showing ALL work will be a homework pass.

The cougar claw card program which is described below is meant to immediately acknowledge students for exhibiting positive behavior by giving them a claw card. The claw card is the reward! I randomly pick names from the display case as an extra incentive for students to exhibit positive behavior but again if your child receives a claw card, that is what counts! Some students decide to keep the claw cards for themselves while others put them in the containers to shoot for a pencil. It is their choice. AES students live up to our behavior expectations!

Ashaway School Science Journal

The Ashaway School has published three journals this year that reflect our science thinking and writing. We have seen so much growth in our students and are excited to share it with all of you. Please enjoy and we hope you learn something new.

AES Students work hard!

Make Math Fun!
Play board games, solve puzzles, and ponder brain teasers with your child. Your child enjoys these kinds of activities while enhancing his mathematical thinking. Point out the mathematics involved, and have your child discuss the strategies he used.

For example, look for patterns on a checkers board. Play multiplication war with playing cards. Roll dice and add the total number of dots or multiply them.

School Wide Positive Behavior Program
At Ashaway School we hold high expectations for academics and behavior for all Ashaway community members.

The school wide positive behavior program will acknowledge students for exhibiting our four expectations. Students are always being taught how to be respectful, how to be safe, how to be honest, and how to be responsible in all of the school settings.

Each staff member of the Ashaway School Community emphasizes these qualities and students are presented a "cougar claw card" to acknowledge their display of respect, responsibility, honesty, and safety.
