Scriptures of the Month ...
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4: 6-7 (KJV)

WHERE CHANGE TAKES PLACE, FROM THE INSIDE OUT!
From the Pastor's Desk:
"Thanksgiving Greetings"

“O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good; His steadfast loving kindness endureth forever.” (Psalms 118:1 KJV)
Thanksgiving greetings are extended on behalf of the First Church of God, Lee Street to all of our web visitors. As we observe this special time that has been designated to give God thanks, Let us bow before him in humility, repentance and sincere appreciation. Repentance- for any lack of devotion and lack of time spent in prayer during the past months. May we take this time to offer up our sacrifices of love, our sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving to our God. He is so Holy; He is so awesome; He is so worthy. His blessings are innumerable.
May we remember the words of the Apostle Paul, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ concerning you.”(I Thessalonians 5:18 KJV)
Thanksgiving is more than just a day. It is the disposition of every true Christian, every day. God’s power, God’s presence, God’s provisions, God’s promises, God’s protection and His amazing grace should develop within every follower of Jesus Christ an attitude of sincere gratitude. “Enter into His gates (His Holy Place) with thanksgiving and into His courts (The Holy of Holies) with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting and His truth endures to all generations. “(Psalms 100 NKJV)

Thanksgiving is more than just a polite formality of “thank you”. It is recognizing our dependence on Almighty God. It conveys adoration and devotion. We can cast all our cares on Him for He cares for us. We must rely on Him and wait on Him to do for us what no one else can do, in His own time and in His own way.
It is impossible for us to be thankful and anxious at the same time.

Our world presents many situations that can cause anxiety. We face a weak economy, disease, war and increasing rates of unemployment. Businesses are closing, crime and divorce rates are increasing- even among church folks. Then, there is the every day concern of bringing up children and of personal finances. Crisis are getting worse, more frequent and coming closer to home. The world is stumbling in darkness.
Do not be dismayed. Because of our relationship with Jesus, we can join Paul in saying “But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Cor. 15:57)
Life at its longest is still short and it is uncertain. Let us be thankful for each new day.

“Gods mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.” We have a loving Father who blesses us over and over again. He provides shelter in our storms of life. He builds bridges over our troubled waters. It may be human nature to gripe and complain, but it is not to be the nature of a believer. God is our refuge and strength when everything seems to be falling apart. Again we can join Paul in saying, “thanks be unto God which always causes us to triumph in Christ.” (II Cor. 2:14)
Never forget that we owed a debt we could not pay. Jesus paid it all. We were in bondage, a slave to sin and we could not free ourselves. Jesus set us free. We were destined to death and eternal damnation. God through His son Jesus made a way of escape.
Jesus provided for us a perfect plan of salvation with benefits that can’t be beat. Salvation carries with it an abundant life, hope, eternal life, “An inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away reserved in heaven”. It also carries a promise, “And we know that all things works together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.”
Do you know Jesus as your Savior? If not, do you want to know Him? This is your season; take the Romans road. (Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;") (Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us".) (Romans 10:9-10, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved"; "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation".)

“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” (Psalms 34:18) The word of God promises in Acts 2:21 “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Call out to him NOW and open the door of your heart.
May we have thankful hearts and pray without ceasing as we near the Advent season.

Thanksgiving Prayer Dear Precious Lord,
We bow our heads in heartfelt, thankful prayer;
For all the ways You've blessed our lives
and for Your loving care.
We thank You for the hands
that have prepared our special treat
And pray that You will bless all those
who have no food to eat.
We're thankful for Salvation's plan
and for Your Holy Word;
And pray we'll help to spread
Your love to those who've never heard.
We're thankful for our freedom,
and for churches that are near;
Where we can meet to praise Your Name
and worship without fear.
But still our hearts are saddened
by our brothers who aren't free;
Who suffer death and torture
for their Christianity.
We pray You'll give them strength
and courage as their cross they bear;
And let them know God's family
remembers them in prayer.
We thank You for heroic troops
who fight for liberty;
And daily risk their lives
and limbs to keep our country free.
Forgive us of our many sins
and keep us close today;
And bless all that You've given us,
in Jesus Name, we pray.

Litany of Thanksgiving Let us give thanks to the Lord,
For He satisfies the thirsty,
He fills the hungry with good things,
And He heals the afflicted.
Let us celebrate His abundant goodness.
We thank you, Gracious Father,
That you provide for all our needs,
For food on our tables,
For the clothes on our bodies,
For the beds we sleep in,
For the dwellings that shelter us.
We praise you, Lord,
For all your gifts that go beyond our basic needs,
For the things that make our work easier,
For the conveniences of modern life,
For the beauty and pleasure that you bring into our lives.
Thanks be to God!
