News FIRST DAY was a great day at CAMP ROCK as over 240 parents escorted their child(ren) to class! At the end of week one 475 rockers were enrolled at CAMP. On Tuesday, August 26, we will welcome 40 four year olds. |

Welcome to Six Mile Elementary, home of the Eagles. Six Mile Elementary School was built in 1990 on a 25 acre campus. It is located approximately one mile north of downtown Six Mile on SC Highway 137 at the base of Six Mile Mountain and in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have a dedicated faculty and staff as well as parent volunteers who are very supportive. In 2007, our volunteers were recognized by our district as a Second Place Winner for accumulating 3,706 hours. Last year Six Mile was a SC Department of Education Showcase School Award Recipient for identifying strategies that improved PACT results. Also, Six Mile Elementary was recognized for the second consecutive year by the SC Education Oversight Committee for reducing the achievement gap on PACT among free and reduced students. Most recently, SME was awarded the 2008 Upstate Safe Kids School Award. Join us at CAMP ROCK - Reaching Out with Character and Knowledge!
Nestled at the base of Six Mile Mountain and within view of the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains, our modern facility was completed in 1990. Since 1909, a school has anchored this small South Carolina community, and our goal continues to be to serve as “the heart” of our small town. Steeped in history, our community takes its name from local Cherokee folklore and our present site lies just a few miles from the once great Cherokee capitol. The “school house” still serves our community with pride, and our facility is used year round by community groups and agencies.
Patriotism and civic responsibility are a hallmark of our town and a memorial to our area’s four Congressional Medal of Honor winners graces our front entrance. Our present facility itself is a testament to the enduring love of our town who fought for a new building for its teachers and students when funding was difficult to achieve. Pride in community and our school enables our students to learn the values of service and responsibility and our goal continues to be creating future citizens who are life-long learners.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
I am in my fourth year as the principal at Six Mile Elementary School. I am a native of Six Mile and a product of Six Mile Elementary. I received my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1984 and a Masters of Administration and Supervision in 1990 from Clemson University. I taught fifth grade for 15 years at Six Mile Elementary before serving as assistant principal four years. I have been married to Susan Brown for 18 years and we have six children: Zach(16), Kelsey(13), Bethany(12), Lindsey(8), Emily(5)and Ansley(newborn). We live in Six Mile and enjoy spending time together as a family and being involved in our church.
