![]() Hello and welcome to our website. My name is Wayne Canady, and I am the Theatre Department Chair and a Curriculum Specialist at Carolina Forest High School. I am delighted to report that "CATS" was an unprecidented success. Our theatre students performed to 13 sell out shows. The sets were awesome, the costumes were perfect, and lighting and technical theatre students performed at their very best. The live orchestra featuring many of our own students musicans were exquisite. The entire show was just a phenomenal experience for all involved, especially me! In my 26 years of theatrical productions, I believe this one was the best of all... We had so many positive comments after the show from folks who saw the show on Broadway, and even in the original show in London. They all agreed that we performed on a par with the professionals, some said even better. Now that's some high praise indeed! As you review our website, we hope that you will take a moment to let us know who you are. We want to contact you and make you aware of all of our upcoming performances. We have a large group of talented young people at Carolina Forest. Some of our graduates have gone on to Broadway. Some of our graduates and coaches have won Emmy Awards, and I am convinced that even more will be performing on Broadway one day soon. We are so fortunate that in our school district, we are able to offer our children a chance to learn about the stage, theatre, music, and art in the public school system. Theatre, show choir, band, orchestra, art, broadcasting, technical theatre, we have it all in our curriculum at Carolina Forest High School. We hope that you will make plans to attend some of many upcoming performances that we offer during the school year. We have a calendar of events that you can click to see all the information about when and where. We look forward to seeing you there!
![]() Hello, I’m Kraig McBroom, Vocal Music Director at Carolina Forest High School . We are proud of our extremely comprehensive vocal music program which includes the CFHS Choral Ensemble, Show Case Show Choir, Women’s Ensemble, Freshmen Show Choir and Mixed Chorus. These groups offer the community three concerts per year--one in the fall, one during the holiday season, and one in the spring. We are proud of the fact that our Choral Ensemble has received “Superior” ratings consistently at both regional and state festivals, and our Show Case Show Choir has walked away with Grand Championship awards at competitions in Williamsburg, VA; New York, NY; and Orlando, FL. Horry Telephone Cooperative was so impressed by our show choir's accolades that they commissioned the group to be the featured entertainment at the company's annual meeting and also to record a holiday show that aired on HTC’s “Christmas on Demand.” Like our theater department, we boast many vocal music alumni who have gone on to win leading roles in university productions and to perform in a number of professional shows. Even for those students who have chosen other paths, we are confident that our program has given them wonderful memories and pricless experiences. The most recent "good news" for our vocal music department was new that we were one of very few schools in the country to win the “Good Deeds for Schools” $10,000 Grant from Goody’s Family Clothing Store and actress Ashley Judd. Because our fan base and number of supporters has grown tremendously over the past few years, we have recently added a second evening public performance to all three of our annual shows. Even with the expanded performance dates, we still continue to fill the house, often with standing room only. We could not do this without the dedicated support of our students, our faculty, our administration, our parents, and our community. For this, we thank you ALL, and we pledge to continue to provide you with the best entertainment in the area.
![]() Hello! My name is Kelly Hall. I am the newest addition to the theatre department at Carolina Forest High School. I will be starting my new job in the Fall of 2008! I am very excited about being a part of the Carolina Forest High School Performing Arts Department. I believe that theatre offers more than a chance to design and perform. Through theatre we can learn communication skills, management skills, and directorial skills. I look forward to meeting you, and sharing with you my passion for theatre and education. |
Our Graduates Are Making a Name for Themselves We have an illustrious group of alumni who are making performing arts their life's work. Some are performing on Broadway, some are Emmy Award winning! One is a costume designer in New York! Some are now teaching and have gotten their Master's Degree in Performing Arts. Please refer to the alumni link above to read the bios of just some of our former students, and what they are doing right now...

Summer Audition Tips For students who are planning to audition for summer stock or local Little Theatre productions. The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) published an audition "dos and don'ts" for their auditions that is really quite interesting. Here is what they said... SETC Audition Tips or... "What Bugs SETC Professional Companies During Auditions!" When planning your SETC Audition, please keep in mind some feedback that we received from the companies who were surveyed at the Fall 2001 SETC auditions in Charlotte regarding monologues, songs and other issues that "bug" them pertaining to SETC auditions. Here are the results from that survey: Monologues That Are Done Too Much: "Anal Probe" | "Jockstrap" | "Tuna Fish Sandwich" | "Jesus Picture" Avoid material that calls attention by the use of foul language, sexually explicit shock value or graphic scatological humor. Stand-up type of material that only goes for laughs and hits only one note. Monologues that only go from one description to another or one laugh to another with no through-line About Songs: Do’s - What the companies would like to hear more of: Cole Porter | Burton Lane | Cy Coleman | Rogers and Hart Jerome Kern | Harlod Arlen | Other standards Don’ts Don’t do Sondheim in the general auditions (unless you’re over 40 and have been through what the lyrics imply, or can control the phrasing). For the same reason, don’t do "Being Alive" or "Johanna" Try to avoid "Vanilla Ice Cream." It’s just done as a delivery vehicle for the money note at the end and no one acts through the lyric as they should. Don’t do "Naughty Baby" Don’t do "Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man..." Don’t do "victim" songs - "Mr. Cellophane" is the classic example of this. Songs about how lousy a person you are make you weak on stage. Extra Tips: Ladies, try to keep your skirts at knee length or below. Also, try to keep your hair off of your face during your audition - wear it tied or neatly pulled back. Time yourself! Make sure that your audition does not run over the allotted time. Cut your song down. It only takes 16-24 measures to know if you can sing. Make a photocopy of your application before you submit it. If it’s too dark - change it! Try to be aware of your speech. Specifically, do not drop your "r’s" or final consonants. Do not attempt accents - use your real voice. Proofread your applications and information. It speaks loudly to see you were in "A CHOROS LINE" or played the role of "Huddle" in FIDDLER. Sounds like good advise. Thank you SETC for the Audition Tips. Good Luck to you on your auditions this summer! http://www.spiritshop.com/school/South_Carolina/Myrtle_Beach/Carolina_Forest_High_School-342874.aspx Announcing the Carolina Forest Spirit Shop!
