| Iris Festival a Success for Patch The Cypress Patch exhibited and sold goods for three days during the recent Iris Festival in Sumter, SC. The weather was off and on, rainy then humid, but crowds attended and bought a variety of gourds provided by our members. This is the first three-day event for the Patch and we are eager to sign up for the event again next year. Overall, the Patch sold $500 with ten percent going back into the treasury. UPCOMING CLASSES
On July 7, Marvin Berg will be leading the class in a woven topped gourd, based on the original design by Marianne Barnes of the Palmetto Patch. Marvin took her class at GourdFest and is eager to share what he learned with us. Available are prepared gourds, spokes in place, with kits of dyed reed and seagrass, philodendron shealth, pod and attachment materials. Kits are $13 for members and $25 for non-members. We are plesed to welcome several of our basketweaving friends to this class.
On August 4, Betsey Sloan will teach a different rim treatment with round #3 reed. It is a simple take on the Japanese rolled border. The rim is woven and then the rim and gourd are both stained with alcohol inks. Kits are $7 and students must bring their own prepared gourd. Spoke size and drilling instructions will be given at the July meeting. For non-menbers, the fee will be $15 and will include a prepared gourd.
September 1: Terry Humphries will show us how to shade and use acrylics.
October 6: Pat Duke will show us how to do Bonnie Gibson's Faux Raku gourd bowl.
November 3: Linda Barrett will teach mini-gourd baskets.
December 1: to be announced.
January 5: Betsey Sloan will demonstrate how to use carving bits.
