"Pluff" is a lowcountry term to describe the rich, soft soil in the marshes of Charleston. If you've never been in "pluff" mudd, you can't possibly know how it sticks to you. I mean, it really sticks to you - everywhere. That's what these girlfriends do - we stick together. And we all "shine" in our own way, just like diamonds. Meet our "Diamonds in the Pluff".

Some of us are true Charlestonians and some of us are transplants, but we all celebrate life and enjoy our girlfriends in our red and pink hats. We are Southern Divas (Italian, literally meaning goddess) with "Pluff" mudd in our hearts and shrimp and grits in our veins.

Being a diverse group, each lady brings a unique spirit, style and talent to our chapter. But we all love to dress up in our red and purple (age 50+) or pink and lavender (approaching age 50) finery and strut about letting everyone know we are still “Hot Babes” even though it mostly comes in flashes now.

Our goal today is to have fun with the world, enjoy life and take time for “us.” We believe that silliness is the comic relief of life.

We play so we can rediscover the magic all around us.

"When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple With A Red Hat Which Doesn't Go And Doesn't Suit Me." From the poem "Warnings" by Jenny Joseph. The Red Hat Society began with one lady reading this poem and sharing it with a friend, along with the gift of a red hat.
