 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
 Welcome to another exciting year filled with many opportunities. We have many ways for you to help and will do our best to find a place for everyone! If you can offer 1 hour a week, 1 hour a month, or 1 hour a year we want you to know your help is needed and welcomed. Any time that you give, including work at home, is important and appreciated! YOU are a vital part of the educational team here at Greenbrier.
CLASSROOM OPPORTUNITIES

Coordinator - Kelly Dodenhoff
Room Parent (Be sure to talk with teacher) Responsible for contacting volunteers for class activities as directed by teacher; for organizing 2 class parties a year (December and May – NO Valentines’ parties this year); contacting volunteers for school activities like Spring Carnival & put together “carnival basket”, etc. Must be comfortable making phone calls. Training provided.
Foster Volunteer: Adopt a class that does not have a room parent or volunteers.
SEEDS (Supporting Early Developmental Skills): This is a program for grades K-5 – 3rd. Volunteers read to the class every other week and do a short activity. All books have been pre-selected and come with pre-made activities. Books are found in the library next to the main desk. (Some teachers may want a reader every week- you can alternate with another parent.) Training is required, packets are available.
Tutoring: Provide guided help for students in reading & math. One hour per week. Teachers provide materials.
Assist in the Classroom: Assist as directed by teacher. Filing, process book orders, put up bulletin boards, decorate classroom doors, etc. Must be scheduled ahead of time with your teacher.
Lunch Relief: Supervise your child’s class during lunch so the teacher can have a duty free lunch on the 1st Wed. or 3rd Tues. of each month. This is a great opportunity for parents to get to know each other and build a network.
Computer Lab helper: Assist your child’s class during their computer lab time. Arrange with teacher. Technical knowledge is helpful.
Art: Help out during special projects- ie. Clay.
Music: Help in class as directed by teacher.
ESOL (ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES): At Home- Coloring and cut-outs; In class- read to students.
All of our Related Arts and specialty teachers can benefit from any extra supplies that you can provide from their wish lists.
Media Center: Help shelve books on a regular basis. (Small “quiet” children ok to be with you)
Health Room: Assist in health room as guided by the Nurse. Help with vision and hearing screenings is needed in September & October. Flexible hours.
YEAR ROUND OPPORTUNITIES

Box Tops/ Soup Labels: Coordinator - TBD
Volunteers needed to count, trim, & bundle – great for working parent or teens. Work is sent home in an envelope with your child on a monthly basis – you will have 3-4 days to complete the work. We are looking for one person for each class to be a Box-Tops “parent”. The 1st collection will be sent home Aug. 31st. There will be a special prize for the class that sends in the most labels & box tops!
Stevie B’s Night & Chick-fil-A Night(once a month each): Someone to stuff the teacher’s boxes with the Info. to go home with students.
School Store: M-F 7:30-7:55 a.m. - Someone to run the store. Need help 1 or more days a week.
Reflections(Sept. – Nov.): Coordinator - Heather Trowbridge and Jill Saard
“Diversity is...” Sponsored by National PTA – all students will complete an entry in art class. They are also encouraged to write a story, write/sing a song, take a picture, make a video, or create a dance using this theme. Help is needed to find judges, collect entries, & assist with awards. Rules will be posted outside the teachers workroom. Training available - coordinator needed.
Hospitality Reecie Coker : Create a sign for the teacher lounge with list of all birthdays for that month. Help is needed on an ongoing basis to help set up/serve at PTA & School functions and send in Baked Goods / snacks/ drinks. Work can be done every month or one month a year. Most work can be done from home.
Newsletter: : The Greenbrier Times Coordinator – TBD.
Help put together our monthly Newsletter (8 issues a year) Help is needed with gathering information, make copies & distribute. Most work can be done from home.
Tribune Times Liaison: TBD.
Publicity Committee: Coordinator-TBD.
Take pictures of school events for yearbook, newsletter and website email to greenbrierpta@yahoo.com.
Technology Opportunities: Computer Data Entry – Enter information from volunteer checklists into a data base that can be shared with Volunteer coordinator, room parents, and teachers. (Can be done from home) Training provided.
Work at Home: Make phone calls; cut out items; type; computer work; Bake goodies; send in supplies; be a guest speaker on career day. Ask teacher if she has things she can send home with your child for you to do.
Business Partner: If you own a company or work for a company that would be willing to donate & or become a Business Partner. (Some suggested donations; lunches for staff, making copies, gift certificates, supplies, Carnival Basket items, time off to read or tutor.) Donation letters are available from the PTA if your employer needs one.
EVENTS OPPORTUNITIES

Coordinators-TBD.
School Picture Day: 3 or 4 people to help line up students, fix hair and help as needed.
Book Fair: Help students make wish lists, find books, & purchase items. Fairs run from 7:45- 3:00pm each day. One to 2 hour shifts are needed to cover all hours each day.
Spring Fling Carnival: Sign up to help with a game booth, send in items to go in class basket, solicit donations from local businesses, etc. More Information will go out in Feb. and will be available on the school website.
Publix Cake Making Day: Help students decorate “Mother’s Day cakes just before and during their lunch hours – this is great time for dad’s to come and help out – it will take about 20 minutes.
Teacher Appreciation Week: A luncheon is provided for teachers and volunteers watch their classes for 1 hour at lunchtime. We also need help to plan activities, send in snacks & set out snacks during the week.
Other: Please tell us if you have any other ideas that would benefit our school. Suggestions are always considered & welcomed. Please list any other ways that we can help you feel welcome or get involved.
