ABOUT EMERALD CHAPTER

The Emerald Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals® (IAAP®), located in Greenwood, South Carolina, was chartered March 6, 1959, as Emerald Chapter of National Secretaries Association (NSA). We strive for excellence. The Chapter builds on the IAAP® foundation to help its members reach professional excellence.

Education and professionalism have always been the focus of Emerald Chapter. So for many years, the Chapter has awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors or college students continuing their education in the profession. And for most of its 50 years, Emerald Chapter has sponsored at least one educational workshop each year. The Chapter has also sponsored review courses for those seeking professional certification - Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) or Certified Administrative Professional (CAP). Almost one quarter of current chapter members have earned one or both certifications.

Emerald Chapter has also achieved noteworthy distinctions among South Carolina Division (SCD) chapters. Many members have served on the Division Board, but Emerald Chapter has provided more SCD Presidents than any other chapter. Likewise, eight Chapter Secretaries of the Year have been honored as SCD Secretary of the Year—again, more than any other chapter in the Division. Emerald Chapter is also the only SCD Chapter to host a Southeast District Conference.

Emerald Chapter currently has 37 members, but is always alert to fulfill the goals of our Mission and Plan—ongoing education, professionalism, chapter and personal growth, and community recognition of our profession.
