Communicate with Confidence

Jennifer A. Scarberry, CISR, CPIW, a personal lines agent with Goldsmith Theodore Insurance Agency, won the Insurance Women of South Carolina’s Communicate with Confidence Speak-Off Competition, at the organization’s annual meeting on Saturday, September 18, 2004.

The Communicate with Confidence course is designed to develop and enhance the communication skills of the participants. The program, developed by the National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW) International, is the organization’s most prestigious and popular development program. Participants in the course have an opportunity to develop their stage presence, thought organization, and presentation methods through which they can enhance their abilities in their chosen career and in NAIW.

Jennifer will go on to compete at the regional level at the Region III Conference in March 2005 in Gulfport, MS, and if she is successful there, she will compete at the national level at the NAIW National Convention in June 2005 in Reno, Nevada.

Johnson & Johnson, Inc. Mgrs. of Charleston, SC, sponsored the state level speak-off for the ninth straight year. Additionally, Johnson & Johnson will sponsor the state winner to the regional contest for the tenth straight year.

NAIW is an association of nearly 13,000 insurance professionals dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry. The national organization has 360 local affiliates throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, with headquarters in Tulsa, Okla.

Insurance Professional of the Year

William J. "Bill" Arnold II, AIS, API, an Associate Business Consultant with Computer Sciences Corporation, recently was named Insurance Professional of the Year for the Insurance Professionals of the Midlands and Insurance Women of South Carolina, an affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW).

The Insurance Professional of the Year award recognizes excellence among those who have been employed in the insurance industry a minimum of ten years, according to NAIW, which sponsors the regional and national levels of the award. Among the criteria considered in conferring the award is the candidate’s participation in association activities, involvement in insurance industry education programs, industry experience and current professional capacity, activities undertaken in the community and response to an industry related essay question.

Bill will go on to compete at the regional level. The nine regional winners compete at the national level, with the National Insurance Professional of the Year awarded $1,000 at the NAIW National Convention held each June.

State Project

Check out the link www.bubelaiken.org (see Links Section below left). Make sure to watch the intro movie to learn more about the Bubel Aiken Foundation.

Our state project this year is to raise AT LEAST $1,000 for the Bubel Aiken Foundation.

Having a child that was born severely pre-mature, and having the miracle of seeing him grow into a healthy, happy boy has made me realize how fortunate and blessed I am. Other parents haven't been so lucky. So many children need our help and the Bubel Aiken Foundation is doing a phenomenal job making resources available to these children.

With the help of the IWSC family - we can make a difference!

Please give generously.

For information on fundraising ideas or how to turn in your contributions, please contact Stephanie Manley, S.C. State Director at smanley@bbandt.com or (864) 672-1378.

Please keep me posted on your success!
