LIEUTENANT GOVERNORS OF NOVA SCOTIA
Up until 1786, the vice-regal representative in Nova Scotia normally held the rank of Governor, and only occasionally Lieutenant Governor. Once Governor Sir Guy Carleton, was appointed Governor of British North America, all the existing governors were given the rank of lieutenant governor.

COMMISSIONERS OF THE NORTHWEST TERRITORIES The Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest Territories was, prior to 1905, the Lieutenant Governor of present day Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and part of Manitoba.
In 1905 Saskatchewan & Alberta became separate provinces and in 1999 Nunavut became a separate territory. The Canadian Government's representative is the Commissioner. The Commissioner does not represent the Sovereign.
