  • To feel grownup
  • To fit in and belong
  • To relax and feel good
  • To take risks and rebel
  • To satisfy curiosity

How to talk to your kids about drugs.

  • Build trust and establish open lines of communication early.
  • No lectures. Use "learning moments."
  • Set a good example for your kids.
  • Be factual.
  • State your position.
  • Be a good parent.
  • Know your child's friends.

Guide for parents hosting a teen party.

  • A parent should be at home during the entire party.
  • Alcohol and other drugs should not be served or allowd.
  • Teens who leave the party should not be allowed to return.
  • Limit party attendance and time.
  • Set ground rules with your teen before the party.
  • Plan to have plenty of food and soft drinks on hand.
  • Discuss appropriate party activities before the party.
  • Do not hesitate to call the police for assistance if necessary.
