Our 2004 Year

OUR FIRST GATHERING

JUNE
We met at Ryan's Steakhouse in Anderson to discuss what our Chapter name would be, when we would meet and what we would do. Everyone listed a name on a piece of paper and we discussed all of them. We decided to become the Rosie Cheeks Chapter.
Ladies attending: Donna Whitt, QM, Judy Simpson, Dora Elgin, Linda Bannister and Janie Bryant.

WE GO FROM A CHAPTER OF 5 TO A CHAPTER OF

JULY
We met on Monday, July at the Red Shutter Bed & Breakfast. We had several new ladies to visit us to see if they wanted to become a member of our chapter. The ladies were asked to think of thier most embarrassing moment as an adult or child and to share it with us. After we ate, everyone shared thier story and we voted by secret ballot for the one we thought was best. Betty Gray was the winner with her story about her slip falling down around her ankles while she was at school. Betty was given a Red Hat Purse made by our QM.

They were all dressed in black and white, prepared the meal and served us. All of the ladies were told to be prepared to share with everyone the following. If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be? Why? What would be the first thing you would ask them? After that, we played .

SEPTEMBER
On Monday, September , Connie Poston haosted a Garden Party at her home. Connie had prepared ham, beans, slaw, bread and dessert for us.
We each brought a plant or flower with us to exchange with other Hatters. The question of the month was - what is your favorite flower and we all share our answers.
We were sitting in a circle in Connie's yard and we went around the circle and let each lady look at the lady on her right and tell what kind of flower they reminded them of and why.

Our 2007 Year

EVERYONE SEES US IN A DIFFERENT WAY

JANUARY 2007
On January 9th, we gathered at The Golden Corral. We ate first - most important!
While we were eating we drew a name of one of the ladies present from a bowl and was told not to let anyone know who's name we had. After we got our name, we were told to look at all of the ladies present and especially at the lady who's name was on the paper we had drawn. We were to remember what this lady was wearing, the kind of hat she had on and anything that would identify this lady.
After we ate, we were given a plain sheet of paper and were told to use the crayons, markers and colored pencils to draw a picture of the lady who's name we had drawn from the bowl the best we could.
When everyone finished, the pictures were taken and then shown to us one at a time. The pictures were numbered and we had to guess who each picture was. If each lady guessed who she was and was able to guess who drew her, they both won a prize. A prize was also given to the lady that guessed the most correct.
It was so funny to see how others see us. Some drew stick ladies and we had some really good artist in our Chapter.
Ladies attending this gathering were: Donna, Awone, Helen, Judy, Frankie, Janet, Essie, Anne M., Betty, Joan and Mandy.

FEBRUARY 2007
We met at Tucker's at 7 PM for our Valentine Dinner.
All of the ladies had been asked to please wear a hat at this event and not a bow or headband and dress-up fancy for this dinner. The room was full of beautiful shades of purple, lavender, red and pink. Every lady present in our Chapter had on a beautiful hat.
We had 20 Chapter members present, 1 visitor (that is a potential member), 2 hatters from Spartanburg and 5 young ladies (maybe future hatters) that have help us with our Chapter.
As our meal was being served, we shared some info about our '1st Loves' and our '1st Kisses'. We found out some interesting things about our ladies. The '1st Kisses' brought back memories of Drive-in Movies, kisses on school buses, kisses while laying on the hood of a car, goodnight kisses at the door and a kiss while on a ferris wheel.
After our meal, announcements were being made when a little old gray haired lady on a walker entered our room yelling, "I'm looking for American Idol, I want to try out for Idol, I want to meet Simon". This lady was told she was in the wrong room. We told her this was a RHS dinner. The lady said, "I'll sing for you anyway". Her name was "Mozella" and she sung a song about getting old and needing aspirins and Depends. It wasn't long until everyone realized this was our member Mandy Hopkins. She did a great job as Mozella and had us all laughing. Thank you, Mandy.
While Mandy changed her clothes, we all tried to remember some happy and sad love songs. We were given a sheet of paper with VALENTINE printed down the side and we had to think of as many love songs as we could that began with each letter. It's hard to think of love songs that began with 'V' and 'E'. We were timed too. Heather Whitten thought of 11 songs and Jane Dyar thought of 8.
It was now time for our speaker, Tica Tallent. She is a personal shopper at Belk's. She shared some funny stories about some unnamed customers she has had in the past. She also gave us tips on how to rid our closets of things we don't use. Tica ended with music and all the ladies standing and clapping to the music.
We gave away a few door prizes. The winners were Anne Medlin, Wanda Wingate, Jennifer Campbell, and Tricia Brandt
We had some group pictures made while we were all dress-up and all had on hats.

Ladies attending were:
Rosie Cheeks Members: Donna, Awone, Helen, Mandy, Joan, Frankie, Judy, Sara, Betty, Angela, Lynda, Anne M., Jane, Wanda, Sue, Janet, Ann W., Tina and Essie
Vistors: Harolyn Johnson, QM and Mardi Sater, VQM of Butterfly Belles Chapter - Spartanburg, Jennifer Shaw - possible new member, Jennifer Campbell, Susan Duckworth, Heather Whitten, Tricia Brandt and Kim Cooper - daughters and friends that have done many things to help our Chapter.

MARCH 2007
We met at Logan's on March 13th. We ate, had a few announcements of events coming up for Hatters, played a neat game and spent time visiting with each other.
For our game we were given an index card and told to make a sentence, question or statement using our name and all the words in the sentence we made had to begin with the letter of our name. Examples below.
Donna doesn't do dishes.
Anne ate apples.
Sue smiles sometimes.
This was fun to hear what the ladies came up with. A prize was given to the lady with the most. We had a tie and our winners were Anne Medlin and Sue Wheeler.
Ladies attending were: Donna, Awone, Jane, Essie, Shirley, Sue, Janet, Ann W., Anne M., Tina, Frankie, Judy, Helen, Mandy and Angela.

APRIL 2007
We met at The Hen House Antique & Gift Shop in Belton to celebrater Red Hat Society Day. We invited all the registered Chapters from Belton to join us.
We had ladies from The Rosie Cheeks Chapter, The Shady Ladies Chpater, Red Hat Angels of Belton chapter and The Red Hats of Center Point Chapter to join us.
We palyed a game to get to know each other by finding out what the ladies would like to do and why the couldn't do it.
After eating we we entertained by the winner of the Hatters Talent Show that was held in March.
Ladies from our Chapter atending were: Donna, Awone, Janet, Ann W., Frankie, Sue, Judy, Betty, Sara, Mandy and Tina.

MAY 2007
We met at the Coach House in Anderson on May 8th. We had first planned for a PJ Party but had to reschedule it. At this meeting we just ate, talked and discussed some things we have planned in the future and talked about taking some day trips and some overnight trips.
Ladies attending were: Donna, Frankie, Helen, Judy, Angela, Lynda, Janet, Essie, Anne M., Wanda and Jane.

JUNE 2007
We celebrated our 3rd year as a Red Hat Chapter with a fun Birthday Party.
We started the party with a treat to Helen Medlin who is our Money Keeper. She has the job of keeping up with who has paid for what events we attend and our dues. Our Chapter honored her by paying her way to the Convention we are attending in September.
We then started our games with the Sock Game. The ladies were divided into groups of 4. One group at a time competeed. The ladies were blindfolded, picked gloves from a bag to put on (the gloves didn't match) and were timed as they picked up socks from the floor in front of them. They were to put as many socks as possible on their right foot. The winner from each group received a new pair of socks. Then, the winner from each group competed again for the big prize which was lotions, brushes and foot wash.
Next the ladies were divided into 2 teams and had a relay race. We tied a pair of pantyhose around each ladie's waist with one leg and put an apple in the other leg. They had to swing the apple between their legs and not use their hands to move an apple on the floor across the finish line. Each lady on the team that finished first won a necklace and earring set in pink or red.
The last game was to blow up a balloon. Oh yes, the balloon was on a paper plate covered with whipped cream and they couldn't us their hands. They were divided into 2 teams for this and the team that finished first all won a free appetizer from Texas Roadhouse.
We had hotdogs, slaw, potato salad, cake and ice cream. Each lady received a free meal from some the th different restaurants in our area and a "Rosie Cheeks" notebook to keep all their info in.
Ladies attending were: Janet, Joan, Jane, Betty, Sara, Mandy, Anne M., Helen, Tina, Awone, Judy, Essis, Sue, Frankie and Donna

JULY 2007

On July 10th we had a Pizza/Pajama Party at the home of Tricia Brandt, Donna's daughter. We invited some ladies to from other Chapters to join in on this fun with us.
All ladies were asked to bring an outfit with them along with jewelry to dress in later in the evening from head to toe. Oh yes, these outfits were to be at least 1 size too big for them.
After eating pizza and trying many desserts the ladies brought, each lady had her before photo taken.
The ladies came to the party in their PJ's and without make-up for a "special treat".
The "treat" was - each lady was given a bag filled with make-up in some "unusual colors" and they put the make-up on without a mirror. We had sparkle blue & sparkle yellow eye shadow - dark base for the face - orange, red & pink lipsticks - rose blush - a dark brown brow pencil.
After the ladies were dressed in their outfits and had their make-up on, they had their after photo taken.
One of our ladies, Angela Rice, had a broken arm and couldn't play dress-up so she judged along with Tricia and Lauren Brandt to pick the lady that did the best job without a mirror. Check out the photos bellow and the winner.

FAMILY PICNIC

AUGUST 2007
On Saturday, August 11th we had our Annual Family Picnic at Central Baptist Church, Anderson, SC.
The Rosie Cheeks ladies cooked and brought thier husbands, children and grandchildren to the picnic.
We had lots of good food and many, many desserts.
As the laides and thier families arrived, we made photos of the men for a before shot.
After eating, the men were asked to sit at the front of the room and were given a bag and asked to put on everything in the bag and walk to the back of the room to have an after photo made.
Oh yes, the bags contained a purple dress, red hat and red boa.
The men did a great job! Some of them really had fun strutting about.
Next, we played the "Not So Newly Wed Game". The couples were asked what were thier favorite colors, what were their favorite TV shows and where did their first kiss take place? It was fun hearing the answers and seeing the reactions even though we had a couple of the younger couples share answers, but we won't call any names!
Thanks to our men for being such good sports.
More Photos will be posted soon.
