On December 4, 2009, Gaston/Swansea Cluster hosted the 2nd Annual Father Daughter Dance at Brooklyn Baptist Church. It was a wonderful night. All the Dads and Daughters looked wonderful all dressed up and ready to dance. Every girl had a picture made with her escort(dad, uncle or grandfather, significant male in their life. The there was a snack and plenty of we dancing to the wonderful sounds of our DJ. Then at about 8:30 pm drew tickets and gave away door prizes which includes items purchased at Girlz Gear and table centerpieces that were design and made and donated by the mothers of troops from Gaston/Swansea Cluster.

Postcard Exchange/Town Meeting
Registeration is currently being accepted for troops to participate in exchanging postcards with other Girl Scouts in other states or other countries. If you are interested in participating this event to honor Thinking Day please check out website: www.mythinkingday.com.

Town Meeting

Town Hall Meetings: Girl Scout Town Hall Meetings are an informal, information session and conversation between the volunteer membership and the organizational leadership team of the Chair of the Board and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The content of these conversations usually revolve around operational issues and current projects. It is an opportunity for volunteers to communicate directly about the identified agenda items, or through the open conversation component of each meeting. Likewise, it is an opportunity to keep the volunteer leadership team informed about the progress of the organization. The agenda for this meeting can be found on the council web site after October 1.

All adults and girl members, 14 years of age and older are welcome and encouraged to come and participate. No need to register in advance.

 News and Volunteers Needed

Volunteers Needed: We are getting ready to form our Web site Advisory Group, to be made up of volunteers who represent a variety of perspectives, to be involved over the next 10-12 months as we continue to balance the development of our web-site and the variety of needs that our members and the public have for information. If you are interested please e-mail Susan Schneider at sschneider@gssc-mm.org, and provide some background on your perspective and interest in serving in this capacity.

Girl Leadership Initiatives How do we want to select/elect our service unit’s girl representatives for these new regional and council-wide opportunities for fostering leadership and making our Girl Scout council more girl-centric? (see separate information sheet for ideas) Raising Girls Voices – Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes will meet regionally twice a year Teen Leadership Council – Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors will meet council-wide twice a year

The Annual Meeting and Adult Recognition is Saturday, November 14.(Delegates elected in Fall of 08 are the delegates for this meeting.) In addition to honoring those who are recipients of the top Girl Scout Adult Recognitions we will be honoring those who have earned the 10 Years and Volunteer Years of Service pins. Please forward any additional names beyond what you turned in to the Volunteer Development Directors on the Volunteer Years of Service Pin Form in the Spring to them by October 15.
